Roth honored for pro bono legal work

The Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana honored six Fort Wayne law firms and 44 individual attorneys at its annual volunteer attorney awards ceremony on May 31.

Listed among the individual attorneys was Mathew Roth, from DeLaney, Hartburg, Roth and Garrott, of Huntington.

Roth was named attorney of the year for accepting four VLP cases and donating 52 pro bono hours.

 

Pleasant Chapel VBS to open June 17

The Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church will have a vacation Bible school from June 17 to June 21.

The school will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with classes for children ages 3 to sixth grade.

The theme is "Everywhere Fun Fair - Where God's World Comes Together."

Pleasant Chapel is located at 1100N-100E, Huntington.

 

Lincoln honors students who got to school every day for the entire year

Lincoln Elementary School has announced the names of its students who achieved perfect attendance for the entire 2012-2013 school year.

Students who didn't miss a day all year are:

Kindergarten - Caden Douglas.

Second grade - Danielle Eckert, Gaven Hunnicutt and Kailyn Slone.

Third grade - Jamison Heyde, Chayse O'Connor and Masen O'Connor.

Fourth grade - Trista Eckert and Matthew Kline.

Fifth grade - Gabbriella Minick, Carson Nava, Mitchell Parker, Jonathon Smith, Victoria Taylor and Hannah Witta.

 

Body Art Contest will be a part of Warren’s Salamonie Summer Festival

The Salamonie Summer Festival will host a Body Art Contest.
Contestants will enter their favorite tattoo, which will be photographed by a professional photographer.

All photos will be displayed, and monetary voting will decide a winner.

Awards will go to the three entrants that receive the most votes.

Entry forms must be submitted by June 28, and contestants must follow all contest rules.

Lancaster Elementary School announces the names of its students who made its honor rolls for the entire 2012-13 school year.

Free Diabetic Clinic fund-raiser on Saturday

Gems & Jams 2013, a fund-raiser for the Free Diabetic Clinic, in Huntington, will be held on Saturday, June 15, at Heritage Hall, Hier's Park.

The event begins with an auction and meal at 2 p.m. Bands, including Joni Killian & Co., will perform beginning at 6 p.m.

Meal tickets are available in advance at Barlow's Appliances & More and at Huntington Nursery & Florist.
Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the event, beginning at 1 p.m.

Those who attend just the session with the bands are asked to make a donation.

Wagner new head of Hgtn. Co. Free Clinic

Rosemary Wagner, RN, is the new director of the Huntington County Free Clinic.

Wagner succeeds Sharon Kay, who retired this spring after working with the clinic since its founding in 2004.

Wagner currently lives in Wabash but is a former Huntington resident. She is a graduate of the former Lutheran College of Health Professions, Fort Wayne.

She most recently served as a regional consultant for a long-term care company.

On Tuesday, June 4, Post members, Sons of the Legion and the SPC Chad Clements Memorial of American Legion Post 85 donated food supplies to the survivors affected by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma. The post is still accepting donations of non-perishable items or money. HU contributes 8,440 volunteer hours to communities

Huntington University students, faculty and staff contributed more than 8,440 volunteer hours this year in the greater Huntington and Fort Wayne communities.

"We do everything from more than hundreds of hours served on missions trips to those who have donated an hour of their time for the blood drive," said Grace McBrayer, director of HU's volunteer service and outreach ministry. "And we know we are beyond what we have recorded in numbers of volunteers and the amount of hours served."

Roanoke Antiques and Art Fair is Saturday

The Roanoke Rounders, made up of (from left) Denny Alles, Matt Rupley, Paul Kiobege, Denver Marrow and Kent Roe, will bring their brand of bluegrass and old-time music to the Roanoke Antiques and Art Fair on Saturday, June 15, in downtown Roanoke.

The Roanoke Antiques and Art Fair will return to the town's downtown area on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The street will be closed to accommodate more than 30 antiques dealers.

Visitors will also be able to purchase ice cream, desserts and drinks or dine al fresco for breakfast and lunch.

The day also features live entertainment starting at noon by the Roanoke Rounders, bringing bluegrass and old-time music to the streets of Roanoke.

CS holding root beer stand fund-raiser

Cancer Services for Huntington County will be holding its sixth annual B-K Root Beer Stand Fund-Raiser on Monday, June 17.

B-K is donating $1 for each order that day to Cancer Services.

This year, the event will also include a cookie bake sale.

Funds from Cancer Services are used to help those battling cancer in Huntington County, with mileage costs for traveling back and forth to treatment and prescription costs for cancer medication not covered by insurance.
