Hunting, fishing license sales will shut down for the day on June 15

The computer system that the state uses to sell Indiana hunting and fishing licenses will shut down from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, for maintenance.

People will be unable to buy hunting or fishing licenses on this day. The shutdown affects all forms of license sales, including authorized license retailers and online purchasing through the DNR website.

Anyone in need of a license for that day is encouraged to buy one in advance.

Huntington Catholic students named LAC Artists of the Month

The LaFontaine Arts Council (LAC) honored three Huntington Catholic eighth graders as Artists of the Month in May.

Joshua Bowers, son of Jill Bowers and Scott Bowers of Huntington, was nominated by Jan Tharp, his art teacher. According to Tharp, "Josh is very creative and excellent at problem solving and going the extra mile. He is dedicated and strives to set high standards in his art work."

Bowers plans to attend Bishop Luers next year.

Bethesda to hold fund-raiser

Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, in Andrews, will host a Pizza Hut fund-raiser today, June 10, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All tips earned and donations will go to the Ladies Auxiliary Building Fund.

The Huntington Pizza Hut is located at 101 Frontage Rd., Huntington.

Kids Kampus holds graduation ceremonies

Pathfinder Kids Kampus Child Care Center honored graduates of the Creators (3, 4, 5-year old room), and Premier Preschool classes on Tuesday, June 4, at the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University.

Victory Noll to offer two programs

Victory Noll Center is offering two extended programs that will study Christian spirituality.

"Foundations of Christian Spirituality," is a year-long reflective study of the Wisdom Tradition over the centuries. In the second program, "Spiritual Direction Program and Practicum," participants will engage in a two-year formation to prepare them to become spiritual directors.

Proposed school sets meeting

Hope Christian School will host an informational meeting on June 27, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., for those who are interested in learning more about the school, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014.

The informational meeting will take place at Café of Hope, 900 E. State St., Huntington.

Wickersham, Hurlburt, Stanley take part in regional exchange of ideas

In his role as president of the Northeast Indiana Local Economic Development Organization Council, Mark Wickersham, executive director, is participating in the Cincinnati Regional Exchange this week alongside other area leaders in business, education and community service.

Two other Huntington County representatives are accompanying Wickersham on this trip, sponsored by Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership through its Vision 2020 initiative, Leon Hurlburt, president, Huntington County Commissioners, and Darlene Stanley, owner, Johnson's Junction.

Coffee and doughnuts offered along with ‘We Bought a Zoo’ on June 19

This month's "Wild Wednesday" movie for Seniors is "We Bought a Zoo," on June 19, at Huntington 7 Theater.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with free coffee and doughnuts.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their grandchildren.

Wild Wednesday partners are Huntington Senior Center, Norwood Health and Rehabilitation Center and Parkview Huntington Hospital.

June co-sponsors are McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Miller's Merry Manor, Parkview Home Health and Hospice and Markle Health & Rehabilitation.

JeFFFest to include live auction of local artwork

JeFFFest, the community event sponsored by the LaFontaine Arts Council and Four Corners Custom Framing, is scheduled for June 23 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Huntington

This year's festival features a live art auction.

Three area artists, Cheryl Alevizon, Cherie Droege and Curtis Jarrett, donated paintings on 16x20-inch canvases. These works will be unveiled the evening of JeFFFest and will be auctioned off by Steve Ness of Ness Brothers Real Estate and Auction Company.

Markle Health & Rehabilitation will sponsor Senior Center party June 13

Markle Health & Rehabilitation Center will sponsor the annual Senior party held at the Huntington Senior Center on Thursday, June 13.

Reservations are required and can be made starting today, Monday, June 10, at 359-4410.

Those needing transportation may call HAT at 356-3006.

The Senior Center is located at 354 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.

 

Northview Church of Christ VBS is June 10-14

Northview Church of Christ will be holding a weeklong vacation Bible school titled, "Kingdom Rocks: Where Kids Stand Strong for God," from June 10 to 14.

Kingdom Rocks is for youth ages 3 to grade six and will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day.

Youth will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, singing songs, playing teamwork-building games, experiencing Bible adventures and testing out Science-Fun Gizmos.

Also, participants will learn to look for evidence of God around them via "God sighting."

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC has honored Huntington employee Lori Mickley with a 2013 Excellence in Bendix Leadership Award, recognizing her outstanding contribution, talents and commitment.

Mickley, a manager of quality and product safety, has been with Bendix for nearly 11 years.

The highest individual achievement a Bendix employee can receive, the annual Excellence in Bendix Leadership Award recognizes employees who exemplify leadership each day in their behavior and actions, whether or not they hold a leadership title or manage others in their everyday role.
