Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is May 2

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters will host a Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on May 2 at 7:30 a..m. in Habecker Dining Commons at Huntington University.

Fetters signed a proclamation on April 10, designating May 2 as City of Huntington Day of Prayer.

There is a cost per person for the breakfast and reservations are required.

Seating is limited to the first 100 people who respond. Reservations will be accepted through April 29 or until all seats are filled.

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce has presented vocational student awards in the area of business to Huntington North High School students (front row, from left) Allyson Baldridge, business and accounting, and Kayla Patrick, information technology. Quilt show at Forks of Wabash April 20-21

The annual quilt show will be held at Historic Forks of the Wabash, on April 20 and 21.

Show times are Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Cash prizes will be handed out to youth ages 12-18 and adults 18 and older in three divisions, hand quilted quilts, machine quilted and miscellaneous (wall hangings, table runners, purses etc.).

The event will feature three local quilt artists, Arlene Switzer, on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m.; Karen Eltzroth, at 2 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m., a tribute in memory of Susan Urshel.

Sara Brown (left), food pantry director at Love INC, and Jennifer Fisher (right), a board member of the Sheets Wildlife Museum, unpack donations of personal hygiene products donated by museum visitors. The Sheets Museum conducted a "Giving Back Campaign" the first week of April, asking visitors to the museum to donate personal hygiene items that will be made available through Love INC to those in need. Personal hygiene items can't be purchased with food stamps, Brown says, and donations of those items are always welcome at Love INC.

First Federal announces staff addition and two promotions

First Federal announces a staff addition and promotions.

Jaime Howell was hired in late February for a full-time teller position at the Fort Wayne location on Maysville Road. She has previous customer service and cash handling experience. Howell is a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne.

Lisa Jaynes was promoted to the head teller position at the south office in Huntington. Jaynes has been with First Federal since June of 2010 and has over 30 years of banking experience.

Heritage Days Little Miss, Junior Miss pageants seeking participants

Huntington County girls ages 5 through 12 are invited to take part in the Little Miss and Junior Miss Heritage Days Pageant this summer.

The pageant will be held on Wednesday, June 19, at 7 p.m.
A mandatory orientation session for contestants will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School. Girls must complete an application form during the orientation session and should be prepared for group photographs.

Appointments for individual pictures will be made on April 30 or May 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, at Frederick's Photography.

Northwest kindergarten orientation on April 23

Northwest Elementary School will hold its kindergarten orientation on Tuesday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Orientation is open to children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2013.

Parents must bring their child's immunization records and original birth certificate.

The orientation is open to students being registered only.

Auxiliary donations

Jean Watson (second from left), president of the American Legion Post 85 Auxiliary, presents donations to (from left) Desiree Frederick, program director of the Boys & Girls Club; Carolyn Ray, manager of Huntington House; and Sharon Kay, retired clinic director of the Huntington County Free Clinic. The gifts were made as a part of the auxiliary's public service activities using money collected through a variety of fund-raisers, Watson says. The donations may be used for any of the organizations' needs.

Women invited to tea at Victory Noll Center

Victory Noll Center will present an opportunity for women and girls of all ages to experience a "Spring Break" with a Women's Tea hosted by the Women at The Well on Sunday, April 21.

The program will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Victory Noll Center, located at 1900 W. Park Drive in Huntington.
There is no cost for the event, but there is a suggested donation.

Participants will have a chance to interact with other women in a time of sharing and renewal.

Applebee’s meals to help shelter

The Huntington House homeless shelter will hold a "Dining to Donate" fund-raiser on Wednesday, April 17, at Applebee's in Huntington.

Diners who present a coupon, which is available in today's edition of The TAB, will have 15 percent of their bill donated to Huntington House. The fund-raiser will take place all day on April 17.

Applebee's is located at 346 Hauenstein Rd., Huntington.
