Lancaster HS alumni banquet is April 16

The Lancaster High School (Huntington County) alumni banquet will be held on April 16 in the Lancaster Elementary School gymnasium.

Registration starts at 5 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6 p.m.

Entertainment for the evening will be Kellam and DeaKyne, a local vocal duo.

The evening will include recognition of the classes of 1941, 1951 and 1961.

There is a cost for tickets to the event and reservations are necessary. Attendees may choose to opt out of the dinner portion of the evening.

HU Theatre Company ends year with ‘Guys and Dolls’ production

The Huntington University Theatre Company ends its 2010-2011 mainstage season with "Guys and Dolls."

The musical will be performed in Zurcher Auditorium on April 7-9 and April 14-16. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with 2 p.m. matinee performances on April 9 and April 16.

The comedy features songs such as "Luck Be a Lady," "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" and "I've Never Been in Love Before."

Lancaster announces HR list

Lancaster Elementary School announces its list of students named to the honor roll for the third grading quarter.

They are:

Grade Three
All A's - Jack Britten, Thom Greving, Madelyn Keiffer, Brandon Kem, Karissa Marley, Dayne Prilaman, Morgan Richison, David Rigdon, Brianna Shane, Justin Szelis and Sophie Updike.

Child Conservation Club recaps last meeting

Fourteen members of Child Conservation Club were in attendance on March 15 at the annual carry-in luncheon.

The event was held in Assumption Hall, at St. Mary's Church.

Marilyn Hansen gave the prayer before the meal.
Club officers are Sherrill Ness, president; Carolyn Knapston, vice president; Nadine Piedmont, secretary; and Gloria Hart, treasurer.

Ness announced that the April meeting would be held at the home of Jackie Paul, in Roanoke.

The annual white elephant auction will be led by Steve Ness, auctioneer, and Jackie Young will co-host.

Volunteers sought to plant at Lost Bridge

Volunteers are invited to the Lost Bridge West Modern Campground on April 9 at 9:30 a.m. to help plant trees.

Salamonie Reservoir received funds to plant 50 hardwood trees through this year's Odwalla Plant a Tree Program, an Internet contest facilitated by Government Solutions Group.

Salamonie was chosen to receive the DNR allotment of trees in its modern campground because of the impact from the emerald ash borer insect that is killing ash trees across the state.

Ronald Goetz, a student at Roanoke Elementary School, earned a blue ribbon for his submission to "Symphony in Color," an enrichment program sponsored by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association. More than 35,000 elementary school children participated in the program, in which the students create an artistic impression of musical selections, with 36 of the students earning blue ribbons. Goetz is a student of Roanoke art teacher Cindy Callison.

First Presbyterian Church will hold a Lenten Supper

First Presbyterian Church will hold a Lenten Supper and Study on Thursday, March 31, starting with the supper at 6:30 p.m.

The study will follow at 7 p.m. The topic will be "Jesus is the Messiah or Christ," part of the Lenten study "Gospel Portraits of Jesus."

The supper and study are free and open to the public.

Lancaster Elementary School announces its list of students named to the perfect attendance list for the third grading period of 2011.

Anderson, Hill are Kiwanis outstanding 8th-graders

Crestview Middle School students Rachel Anderson and Brady Hill were honored March 21 by the Huntington Metro Kiwanis Club as Outstanding Eighth-Graders.

The students were selected by the Crestview staff on the basis of scholarship, citizenship, sportsmanship, character-building activities, extracurricular achievement, volunteering and leadership.

Roanoke names honor roll students for quarter

Roanoke Elementary School has announced its honor roll for the third quarter of the 2010-11 school year.
Honor roll students are:

HU’s Lisa Smitley earns IAB scholarship honor

Independent Alliance Banks Inc. and the Fort Wayne Community Foundation recently announced the 13 recipients of the Independent Alliance Banks Employee Scholarship award.

Among the recipients was Lisa Smitley, a freshman at Huntington University, where she is majoring in business.
She is the daughter of Greg and Patricia Smitley.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and personal qualities such as character, leadership ability and community service.
