LAC fashion show, auction will be held on Nov. 7

The LaFontaine Arts Council of Huntington County will present its annual fashion show fundraiser on Nov. 7 at the LaFontaine Golf Club.

The event includes a luncheon, a fashion show with styles from Chico's and a silent auction.

A social time will begin at 11 a.m. with the luncheon served at 11:30 a.m.. The silent auction will conclude at the end of the luncheon.

This year's Arts Advocate will be Karen Kennedy of Goshen. Originally from Huntington, Kennedy will share her vocal talent and dedication commitment to the importance of arts in education.

Somerset Duchy will share medieval life Sunday at Huntington library

Huntington City-Township Public Library and the Somerset Duchy of the Adrian Empire will partner to host the library's third annual Medieval Faire on Sunday, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 p.m.

Interacting with visitors will be medieval characters portrayed by members of the medieval re-enactment group, the Somerset Duchy of the Adrian Empire, who have created the content of the festival and who, dressed in period costumes, will present the event with help from library staff members.

Leadership Academy scholarships available

The Huntington County Leadership Board of Directors and the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce will each award a scholarship for someone to attend the 2010 Huntington County Leadership Academy.

The two scholarships will be given to employees of non-profit agencies in Huntington County.

The academy is slated to begin on Jan. 6, 2010, and run every other Wednesday through May 12, 2010. Ed Vessels and Dr. Rick Upchurch will, for the second consecutive year, teach the academy.

Accepting entries for county 4-H theme and design contest for 2010

The Huntington County 4-H Theme and Design Contest is currently accepting entries for the 2010 4-H year.

Members of the 4-H program are encouraged to submit entries in both theme and design categories and may have more than one entry in each category.

All entries must be submitted to the Purdue Extension-Huntington County Office no later than Thursday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m.

The winning entries will be used in a variety of 4-H promotional materials for the 2010 4-H club year.

Four community organizations benefitted from a Sept. 13 golf tournament at Norwood Golf Club sponsored by the Bippus and Andrews Lions Clubs. The tournament raised $800, which was divided among The Open Door, Parkview Hospice, Love INC and Cancer Services for Huntington County.
