Pathfinder discontinuing recycling services as of Feb. 1 Cindy Klepper - Thursday, January 29, 2009 5:20 PM Piggy-backing the announcement that it would discontinue its recycling services as of Jan. 1, Pathfinder Services announced Thursday, Jan. 29, that it would no longer pick up trash as of Feb. 1. Residential and commercial customers of Pathfinder Services can rest easy, however, as Marion Services will pick up where Pathfinder leaves off. Marion Services is the company that recently picked up the recycling contracts with the city of Huntington and the Huntington County Solid Waste Management District. Millions of dollars in public works projects to get under way this year in Huntington Cindy Klepper - Wednesday, January 21, 2009 3:14 PM Millions of dollars in public works projects will get under way this year in Huntington, Mayor Steve Updike announced in his State of the City address to the Huntington Rotary Club on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Most of the projects will focus on water, sewer and streets, he says. Updike elaborated on the upcoming projects during a telephone interview after the speech. • The city will begin complying with a federal mandate to separate its combined sewer systems, a project that will disrupt traffic throughout the city and will, in the end, cost $30 million to $50 million. Juergens earns command sergeant major status Saturday, January 17, 2009 7:53 AM Photo provided Sgt. Maj. Curt Juergens, of Huntington, has been appointed as "Indiana's Strength Maintenance" Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army. The appointment, by order of Chief of Staff George W. Casey Jr., was effective Dec. 22. A ceremony was held at the Joint Forces Headquarters in Indianapolis. Bitter cold temperatures Thursday evening led to power outages for more than 7,000 Duke Energy customers in Huntington County, forcing some people from their homes to a temporary shelter at the local Salvation Army. The outages began just before 8 p.m. when some transmission line utility poles broke, explains Angeline Protegere, a spokesperson for Duke Energy.
