Huntington Baptist Church VBS set for June 25-29

Huntington Baptist Church invites children to participate in vacation Bible school this summer on June 25 through June 29, from 9 a.m. to noon.

This year’s theme is entitled “Game Day” with the motto “Gear up; Get Ready; Game On. …” Students 5 years old through sixth grade are invited to participate in LifeWay’s 2018 VBS.

VBS concludes with a parent program on Friday, June 29, at 11:30 a.m. followed by a block party with plenty of free food and fun.

Joseph Decuis announces three staff promotions

Roanoke farm-to-table restaurant Joseph Decuis has announced three promotions of its staff.

Chef Marcus Daniel has been promoted to executive chef. Daniel joined Joseph Decuis in 2016 from New York City’s Michelin star restaurant “The Breslin Bar & Dining Room” and “The John Dory Oyster Bar,” where he refined his culinary skills under the tutelage of James Beard awarded Chef April Bloomfield.

Albright earns spot on Cedarville dean’s list

Cedarville University student Eli Albright, of Huntington, achieved the dean’s list for the 2018 spring semester.

Albright maintained a 3.5 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours from Cedarville University.

Cedarville University, located between Dayton, OH,  and Columbus, OH, is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,963 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 150 areas of study.

Several HU students earn distinction of being published in ‘Butler Journal’

Huntington University has announced that several students within the social work and psychology departments wrote a paper that was selected to be published by the Butler Journal of Undergraduate Research. This is the first time that Huntington University has had students published in the Butler Journal of Undergraduate Research.

10 earn HCCF Hohe IPFW Scholarships

The Huntington County Community Foundation announces Al Bolding, Jake Fowler, Jessica Fowler, Bailey Hughes, Katie Hunt, Matthew Hunt, Morgan McNally, Canaan Powell, Aliyah Tolley and Joshua Zahm as recipients of the 2018 Dr. John and Marjorie Hohe Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Scholarships.

Bolding, a graduating senior from Huntington North, will attend IPFW for an unknown major. He is the son of Stephanie and Todd Bolding of Huntington. During his high school career, Bolding was involved in HNHS soccer, Salvation Army basketball and YMCA soccer.

2018 Pilgrimage Retreat at St. Felix June 29-July 1

The 2018 Pilgrimage Retreat will be held at St. Felix Catholic Center on June 29 through July 1.

The program will include learning about the life and legacy of Blessed Solanus Casey.

Guest speakers include Rev. Richard Merling, OFM Cap., Rev. Gerry Pehler, OFM Cap. from the Solanus Center in Detroit, and authors Susan Tassone and Catherine Odell.

Sponsors of the retreat are the Father Solanus Guild of Huntington, SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Our Sunday Visitor, Redeemer Radio and St. Anne Home at Victory Noll.

HCCF announces Aaron Hendryx as winner of Rich Memorial Scholarship

The Huntington County Community Foundation announces that Aaron Hendryx, of Huntington, is the recipient of the 2018 Philip Rich Memorial Scholarship.

Hendryx, a graduating senior from Huntington North High School, will be attending Huntington University majoring in history education with minors in sports science and special education. He is the son of Emily Smith.

Lincoln names 4Q perfect attendance

Lincoln Elementary School has announced the following students who have achieved perfect attendance for the fourth nine weeks of the 2017-2018 school year.

They are:

Jason Hart receives Paul Souder Memorial Scholarship

The Huntington County Community Foundation announces that Jason Hart is the recipient of the 2018 Paul D. Souder Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Sheryl and Paul Hart, of Huntington.

Hart, a rising senior at Purdue University, is majoring in aviation management with plans to earn pilot licenses for both planes and hot air balloons.
