Kaitlyn Burkhart earns 2018 Vincent Allman Art Scholarship

The Huntington County Community Foundation announces that Kaitlyn Burkhart of Huntington has been awarded the 2018 Vincent Allman Art Scholarship to continue her studies at Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Burkhart, a 2017 graduate of Huntington North High School, is majoring in art education. She is the daughter of Bridgett and Shane Burkhart.

Between her college studies and job in graphic design for CollegeTV, Burkhart finds time to volunteer with UnSlaved, a human trafficking awareness organization.

Seeking entrants for third annual porcelain chariot race at SSF in Warren

The third annual porcelain chariot race will be held Saturday, June 30, at 4 p.m. during the Salamonie Summer Festival, in Warren.

Players can get a team together or compete in the single division. Prizes will be awarded for first and second in men’s singles, women’s singles, and team competition.

Participants are encouraged to come dressed in costume, but it is not required.

Registration will be the day of the race and contestants must be 16 or older to participate. Any questions can be directed to Treva Flemming at 375-2436.

Trio earn first-ever PNC Bank Scholarships

The Huntington County Community Foundation announces that Joni Bennett, Katherine “Kay” Bennett and Allyson Trout of Huntington are inaugural recipients of 2018 PNC Bank Scholarships to attend Huntington University.

A rising junior at Huntington University, Joni Bennett is majoring in nursing. Kay Bennett is a rising first-year graduate student in the HU occupational therapy doctoral program. They are daughters of Karen and Thomas Bennett.

Riverview names 4Q honor roll students

Riverview Middle School has announced the following students who have achieved the honor roll for the fourth quarter of the 2017-2018 school year.

Tri Kappa honors Smith with second art award

Emma Smith, a graduating senior at Huntington North High School, was recently awarded the Youth Art Award sponsored by the Chi Chapter of Tri Kappa.

Each year a work of art by a student is selected from pieces created during the year by students in art classes.  The selection is made by a group of members from the local Tri Kappa Chapter.  The work is then professionally framed by Four Corners Custom Framing and hung in the City Building for a year.

The state and local chapters of Kappa Kappa Kappa strongly support culture in their endeavors statewide.

First Friday cake walk

Youth participate in a cake walk in downtown Roanoke on Friday evening, June 1, at the frist Friday nIght Street Fair. The event also featured musicians Adam Strack and police and fire vehicles for youth to look over.
