Country Calico Club sponsors SSF Favorite Pet Photo Contest in June

The Country Calico Club is sponsoring Warren’s Favorite Pet Photo Contest during the upcoming Salamonie Summer Festival. A display of the photos will be located at the Old Fire Station building on 2nd Street during the festival.

Visitors can vote for their favorites by donating one cent per vote. First, second and third place will be determined based upon votes received.

Guidelines and rules to enter pictures are:

• Pictures must be 5x7 inches or smaller.

• Include pet’s name, owner’s name and complete address on the back of the photo.

PHH rehab desk alters hours for patients

The front desk at Parkview Huntington Hospital’s (PHH) Rehab and Wellness Center is now staying open longer on weeknights for the convenience of rehab patients.

Previously, Rehab and Wellness team members who staffed the center’s front desk closed up at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Now, the desk is remaining open until 6:30 p.m. so rehab patients who are finishing up end-of-day appointments will have the opportunity to schedule or reschedule appointments on their way out, if they so desire.

Almost 180 attend Warren alumni banquet

The Warren Alumni and School Association recently held its annual banquet. Nearly 180 former students, spouses and friends of the Warren School were in attendance.

Everyone enjoyed the social time in the gymnasium viewing John Williams’ memorabilia of Warren and the school. During that time the Salamonie Valley Museum was open and several attendees took tours.

After the meal catered by Kim’s Catered Affair, the special classes of 1948, 1958 and 1968 were recognized. The 1968 committee took the lead on planning the event.

Several from Huntington County make Trine pres list for spring 2018

Students from Trine University’s main campus have been named to the president’s list for the spring 2018 semester.

Area students named to the list include:

Mackenzi Cannici, of Huntington, a health and physical education major.

Courtney Christle, of Huntington, an elementary education major.

Houston Lehman, of Huntington, a design engineering technology major.

Eric Peters, of Roanoke, a chemical engineering major.

Mikayla Shaw of Huntington, a marketing major.

UWIS has a variety of events at Salamonie Lake set for this summer

Upper Wabash Interpretive Services has a variety of activities planned this summer at Salamonie Lake, in Andrews.

Planned activities include:

May 30 – Salamonie Lake Preschool, “Wind and Seeds,” Salamonie Interpretive Center, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will learn how wind and seeds work together. Huntington County Master Gardeners will guide garden learning time. There is a fee to attend. Registration is required.

New County Line Pizza owner feels like he’s ‘home’

Todd Egts is the new owner of County Line Pizza, located at 10914 S. County Line Rd., Zanesville. He purchased the business on April 1, but says customers will not notice any change in the recipes used to make food on the menu.

When Todd Egts and Tania Morris purchased the County Line Pizza business in Zanesville on April 1, he says it felt like he was “home.”

“I grew up off of Indianapolis and Coverdale Road area, but I went to Lafayette Center and hung out with the Edwards family, the Zeddis family,” he says. “We were looking at several places to buy and this kind of came up on the market, and I guess you can call it home. Both Tania and I grew up down here – plus, my son loves pizza.”

McElhaney grads from Valpo U

Andrew Michael McElhaney graduated from Valparaiso University on May 20.  He received a Bachelor’s in music education, summa cum laude.

McElhaney will be working in Hobart at the elementary school and middle school as a music and band teacher.

He is the son of Michael McElhaney and Stacia McElhaney.

Local radio group to participate in 24-hour field day June 23-24

The Huntington County Amateur Radio Society will participate in the American Radio Relay League’s 24-hour field day, June 23 and 24, at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 250 Commerce Drive, Huntington.

The event will take place beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, and go until 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The public is invited to attend and see the radio operations during the event.

Miss Indiana visits Flint Springs

Flint Springs Elementary School Principal Aimee Lunsford (right) fields a question from a student for Haley Begay, the reigning Miss Indiana, during an appearance at the school by Begay on Tuesday, May 22. Begay took questions from students about what it was like to be Miss Indiana and later presented a check to the school for $1,491. The funds were raised through the CITGO Spirit Pump program.

Huntington University gives honor to staff members marking milestone years of service, Staffer of the Year

Each year after the academic year comes to a close, Huntington University’s staff and faculty come together for a Celebration of Service to recognize the years of service they have given to the university. This is also a time to honor the Staff Member of the Year and the Faculty Member of the Year, as well as those retiring.

Glenwood Cemetery Assn meets

The Glenwood Cemetery Association of Roanoke will meet on Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. in the Roanoke Heritage Center, located at 102 First St., Roanoke.

The purpose of the meeting will be to conduct the business of the association.

All association members are encouraged to attend.
