Riverview Middle School recognizes 3Q honor roll students

Riverview Middle Sch-ool has recognized students who achieved honor roll status during the third quarter of the 2017-18 school year.

Rufener now member of Financial Services Institute

Financial advisor Jeremy Rufener, of Rufener Financial, has announced he has become a member of the Financial Services Institute (FSI) in Washington, DC.

According to FSI, it advocates for Main Street Americans’ access to objective, affordable financial advice, delivered by a growing network of more than 35,000 independent financial advisor members.

Victory Noll Center offers Emmaus Walk retreat

Victory Noll Center is offering The Emmaus Walk: An Easter Labyrinth Retreat, Friday evening, April 20, through Saturday afternoon April 21.

This retreat will give participants an opportunity to walk in prayerful pilgrimage and allow Jesus to walk along beside. An explanation of the labyrinth as a walking prayer and an exploration of the Gospel of Luke will be the focal points. Victory Noll Center invites all people to discover and develop their capacity for God’s mission.

Holdman to hold trio of legislative update meetings

Indiana State Sen. Travis Holdman, R-Markle, will hold three legislative update town hall meetings on Friday, April 13.

Holdman’s stop in Huntington County will be at Heritage Pointe of Warren. The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Heritage Pointe of Warren is located at 801 N. Huntington Ave., Warren.

Earlier in the day, Holdman will make stops at Swiss Village Retirement Community, in Berne, at 9 a.m. and River Terrace Retirement Community, in Bluffton, at 10:30 a.m.

Swiss Village is located at 1350 W. Main St. while River Terrace is at 400 Caylor Blvd.

Boy Scout Troop 637 to host BBQ

Boy Scout Troop 637 will have a Nelson’s chicken/pork chop fund-raiser on Saturday, April 7, from 10 a.m. until supplies run out at the Huntington Plaza parking lot, by PNC Bank.

There is a cost for the meal. “Pit-Tatoes” will also be available in addition to the chicken and pork.

Andrews Lions to host fry

The Andrews Lions Club is holding a fish and chicken fry on Friday, April 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, 116 S. Main St., Andrews.

The funds raised will help the Lions support several local projects.

Wild Wednesday set for April 18 at Huntington 7

The Huntington County Council on Aging will have its next Wild Wednesday movie on April 18 at Huntington 7 Theater, 350 Hauenstein Rd., Huntington.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for free coffee and doughnuts, and the program starts at 9 a.m. A small admission fee will be charged.

The movie will be “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” a real-life story of Antonia Zabinski, a working wife and mother who, along with her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski, became a hero to hundreds during World War II.

Snack bar discounts are available and door prizes will be given away.

Local Sigma Phi Gamma chapter to hold April lunch at KBC, Warren

Beta Delta chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma will hold its April luncheon this Sunday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knight Bergman Center in Warren.

The menu consists of baked steak, pulled pork, potatoes, green and baked beans, coleslaw, applesauce, rolls and assorted pies.

Tickets will be available at the door, Children 5 and under will be admitted  free. Carry outs will be available.

All proceeds go back into the community.

New Life Ministries to hold a benefit dinner

New Life Ministries is holding a benefit night on Friday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cottage Event Center, 9527 U.S.-24N, Roanoke.

It is a night for people to hear about what the ministries are all about and how they have impacted Indiana. The evening includes dinner and entertainment.

GriefShare class starts at New Hope Church

New Hope Church will offer GriefShare classes on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning April 4 and running through July 11.

Those who have lost a loved one and feel overwhelmed with grief are encouraged to attend this study. A video will be shown each week, and participants will use a workbook during the week. The facilitator is Bonnie Walker.

Stained glass workshop set for Salamonie Lake

Create a cardinal or blue jay sun catcher from stained glass at a Salamonie Lake workshop in April.

The one-day workshop takes place on April 22 and again on April 29. Both sessions run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salamonie Interpretive Center. Artist Katy Gray, a 20-year veteran of stained glass, will lead the workshop.

The cost of the workshop includes all supplies.

Students can also get financial aid for workbased training with FAFSA

Students not interested in pursuing a four-year degree at a college or university can still receive financial aid for work-based training.

By filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), students could receive a Workforce Ready Grant, a new grant offered to high school students entering the workforce after graduation. This program allows high school graduates who are 18 years and older to receive tuition-free training to prepare them for high-demand, high-wage jobs.
