The Joy Pleasers Clown Ministry will be giving interested individuals an opportunity to join the group.

An informational meeting and workshop will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9 a.m. at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. The event, open to males and females over the age of 16 years, will include a question and answer session as well as class time.

Intrepid Museum seeking ship’s servicemen for 75th anniversary

Aug. 16 will mark the 75th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Intrepid (CVS-11), the World War II-era Essex class aircraft carrier that is now home to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, NY.

To mark the occasion, the Intrepid Museum is putting out a coast-to-coast “all call” for former Intrepid crew members to be reunited in a special 75th Commissioning Anniversary Celebration Weekend from Thursday, Aug. 16, to Sunday, Aug. 19, on board the ship.

‘Breakfast with Candidates’ Feb. 24

The Huntington County Republican Party will be holding the next “Breakfast with the Candidates” on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the VFW Post 2689 in Huntington, 220 W. Park Drive. Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., with speakers to begin at 9 a.m.

Featured speakers at this breakfast are U.S. Senate candidate Todd Rokita, Circuit Court Judge candidate Davin Smith, County Clerk candidate Rena Claus, County Auditor candidate Jill Landrum and Huntington Township Trustee candidate E.J. Carroll.

Two HCCSC schools to receive grants for reading improvements

Flint Springs and Lincoln elementary schools are among Hoosier schools receiving 2018 School Improvement Grants.

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced more than $5.3 million will be allocated to six schools and are made available to support student achievement in Title I schools.

Flint Springs and Lincoln each received $40,000, according to Huntington County Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Chad Daugherty.

Ouabache history at next Salamonie Sr. Luncheon

The monthly Salamonie Senior Luncheon will be Monday, March 5, at the Salamonie Lake Interpretive Center. Guest speaker Shelly Reed will present “Ouabache: Then and Now,” an overview of Ouabache State Park history.

The program begins with a carry-in meal at noon. A main lasagna dish will be provided. Guests should bring a side dish to share, a beverage and their own table service. A small donation will be accepted.

Upper Wabash Interpretive Services (dnr.IN.gov/uwis) is located at 3691 S. New Holland Rd., Andrews.

Two locals with Purdue Glee Club at Honeywell

Two Huntington students, William Murray and Kelsey Hoke, will perform with the Purdue Glee Club and the Purduettes Friday, April 13, in the Ford Theater in Wabash.

Founded in 1893, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club is one of the proudest and richest traditions of Purdue University and the State of Indiana.

Celebrating music of all genres with a vast repertoire including pop, classical, contemporary, country, swing, patriotic, Broadway, gospel and jazz, the Purduettes represent the brightest and best from a variety of majors.

Show night dining is available.

Shepherd’s Pantry to distribute on Feb. 15

The Shepherd’s Food Pantry in Andrews will hold a food distribution event on Thursday, Feb. 15, between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon for Andrews/Dallas Township area residents.

The distribution will be at the Lions Clubhouse, located at 365 Leedy Lane (at the ball diamonds). No appointment is necessary. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis..

Huntington library now has mobile hotspots for check out

Beginning today, Monday, Feb. 12, adult library card holders will be able to enjoy free mobile Internet access thanks to devices available for checkout from the Huntington City-Township Public Library.

This is the day the library will start lending mobile hotspots, which will give users unlimited 4G LTE connectivity. People who lack Internet access because they can’t afford it or because conventional Internet service isn’t available at their homes will be able to use the hotspots to connect, browse and stream from any device with WiFi capability.
