Platelets, all types of blood urgently needed, says Red Cross

This January, National Blood Donor Month, the American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood and platelet donors of all blood types to make an appointment to give as soon as possible and help address a winter blood donation shortage.

While all blood types are urgently needed, there is a more critical need for platelets and whole blood donation types O negative, B negative and AB.

Local RTL chapter seeks support for anti-abortion anniversary ad

Jan. 22 marks the 45th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, that legalized abortion on demand.

Each year Huntington County Right to Life commemorates this anniversary with a large newspaper ad containing the names of those who oppose the killing of the unborn.

Supporters can show their support of the pro-life efforts by including their name in this memorial ad. A minimum donation per name is requested to help defray the cost of the ad. Submit names to the Right to Life office or at any participating church.

Pinkerton named top employee

Mass for sick set for St. Felix on Saturday, Jan. 20

A Mass for the sick will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. Felix Catholic Center, 1280 Hitzfield St., in Huntington.

The Mass begins at 1 p.m. and will be preceded by recitation of the rosary at 12:30 p.m.

The Mass is sponsored by the group, “Praying with Father Solanus,” named in honor of Rev. Solanus Casey. Casey, whose intercession is credited with many apparently miraculous cures, spent 10 years of his life at the former St. Felix Friary, now the home of St. Felix Catholic Center.

Northwest Elementary School names perfect attendance students for 2Q

Northwest Elementary School has honored students who achieved perfect attendance during the second quarter of the 2017-18 school year.

Northside Cleaners going more eco-friendly with new machine

A new dry cleaning machine recently installed at Northside Cleaners may help reduce the carbon footprint of the clothing it cleans.

The machine, a Union HXL 8018-C, which was made in Italy and shipped to Huntington, is the latest technology available, says Chris Zahm, who owns Northside Cleaners. The new addition roughly amounts to a $45,000 investment by the company.

First Federal’s Zahn is region director for state bankers’ group

Michael Zahn, president of First Federal Savings Bank, in Huntington, has started his term as a northeast region director for the Indiana Bankers Association’s board of directors.

Zahn started the term on Jan. 1. He was elected to the position last September at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick.

Zahn is one of three northeast region directors, along with Jeffrey W. Gump, of Farmers and Merchants Bank, in LaOtto, and Michael C. Rechin, of First Merchants Corporation, in Muncie.

Youth get invite to ADTPL Winter Wonderland Jan. 13

Children ages toddlers to third graders are invited to the Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library’s Winter Wonderland, Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10:30 a.m.

The event features winter-themed play time. A craft and snacks are included in the activities.

Zay says state senate taking apps for Senate Page Program

State Sen. Andy Zay, R-Huntington, announced the Indiana Senate is still accepting applications for the Senate Page Program.

This full-day interactive program gives students in grades six through 12 the opportunity to tour the Indiana Statehouse, observe session debates on the Senate floor and assist staff with age-appropriate tasks. Students will also meet with their state senator.
