‘Who is My Neighbor?’ series at Victory Noll

Victory Noll Center is offering an eight part series exploring the question “Who is My Neighbor?”

This question is found in the Gospel of Luke. Jesus was willing to engage everyone around him from fishermen to lepers, from the Samaritan woman to the Syro-Phoenician, from tax collectors to the poor widow. When asked, “Who is my neighbor,” Jesus offered a parable and then his own question: “Now who would you say was a neighbor … ?”

Bishop Rhoades to celebrate Mass at St. Felix Catholic Center

Bishop Kevin Rhoades will celebrate a Mass for the Sick on Saturday, Aug. 19, at St. Felix Catholic Center, in Huntington.

The Mass begins at 1 p.m. and will be preceded by recitation of the rosary at 12:30 p.m.

The Mass is sponsored by the group Praying with Father Solanus, named in honor of Rev. Solanus Casey. Casey, whose intercession is credited with many apparently miraculous cures, spent 10 years of his life at St. Felix Friary, in Huntington. The former friary is now the home of St. Felix Catholic Center.

Local riders place in State Fair 4-H Horse and Pony classes

The results of the Indiana State Fair 4-H Horse and Pony Western Division and Contesting competitions have been announced.

Results for the residents from Huntington County who participated are:

Results of Huntington County 4-H’ers’ participation at State Fair

Results of many Indiana State Fair non-animal projects have been announced.

One local 4-H’er, Alexandra Forsythe, won the Sweepstakes Award for having the best overall exhibit in the 4-H computer project. Her entry addressed designing and building a supercomptuer and particle accelerator.

An orange ribbon awarded to a project signifies an exceptional blue ribbon exhibit, and other top exhibits are awarded blue ribbons. Exhibitors can also receive second-tier red ribbons, third-tier white ribbons and green participation ribbons.

New park in Warren gets grant for stage

A $28,800 state grant will pay for the construction of a stage at a new park in downtown Warren, completing the second phase of a three-part development project.

“When we get Phase 2 done, we’ll have a useable park,” says Jeff Souder, who’s chairing the Warren Chamber of Commerce committee that’s working on the park.

The park project is one of six “quality of place initiatives” throughout Indiana to be awarded grants from the Place Based Investment Fund, administered by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Christian motorcycle group at First Baptist Aug. 20

First Baptist Church and the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) invite motorcyclists to attend worship with the Marion Prayer Warriors Chapter of CMA on Sunday, Aug. 20, at the church, located at 220 E. Market St., Huntington.

Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. and a free lunch, free games for kids and bike blessings begin at noon and last until 2 p.m. A live band will also provide entertainment.

Those with bicycles, cars, skateboards and other rides are also welcome to attend the event.

Rev. Casey beatification tickets now available

Tickets for the beatification Mass for Rev. Solanus Casey, which will be held Nov. 18 in Detroit, are now available.

The tickets are free but must be reserved by Monday, Aug. 14, by contacting Jan Scher at 356-1917 or 450-3045. No one will be admitted to the Mass without a ticket.

Those requesting tickets must provide their names, addresses and emails, and whether they plan to arrive in Detroit by car or by bus.

Victory Noll Center offering three wellness practices classes

Victory Noll Center is offering Wellness Practices for Self-Care on three Tuesdays, Sept. 5, 12 and 19, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Participants can learn practices that nourish their body, mind, emotions and spirit. Maintaining a sense of personal awareness and balance, along with caring and compassion for themselves, can enrich the care and compassion they offer to others.

Classes will include calming breath work, gentle T’ai Chi move-ments/meditation, quiet reflection, standing yoga stretches, and more. Casual, comfortable clothes are recommended.

Fur-ball Bash on Sept. 23 benefits animal welfare

The H.O.P.E. for Animals “Hip to Snip Fur-ball Bash” will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Conference Center, in Fort Wayne, on Saturday, Sept. 23. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner starts at 7 p.m.

A night of entertainment, including music by Urban Legend, casino gaming for fun and comedy/magic with Peto the “Almost” Magnificent, is planned. There will also be silent auction tables and 50/50 raffles.

Bishop Kevin Rhoades (right), head of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese, presided at the installation ceremony during a Mass that was concelebrated by several other priests. The parish also welcomed a new parochial vicar, Rev. Maicaal “Mike” Lobo.

Story Time, Discovery Crew starting up at libraries

Fall Story Time and Discovery Crew signups are underway at the Huntington City-Township Public Library from Sept. 5 through Nov. 16.

Children from birth through 7 years are invited to this year’s “Fall Into Story Time” sessions at the Huntington and Markle libraries beginning Sept. 5. Sessions take place Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. and Tues-
day evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntington library, as well as Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Markle library.
