Home buyer session to begin Aug. 2

The Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center is offering a two-part Home Buyer Education class on Aug. 2 and Aug. 9, from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at 1005 W. Rudisill Blvd., Suite 301, Fort Wayne.

The eight-hour class will review what is necessary to become successful home buyers and home owners.

The Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center follows the NeighborWorks curriculum, “Realizing the American Dream,” used by home buyer educators across the United States.

More than two dozen churches will come together in an event designed to celebrate their unity in serving those in need in their community.

The Love Unity Feast, to be held Aug. 20 at the Huntington County Fairgrounds, will also raise funds to allow those churches to continue serving the community through Love In the Name of Christ.

“The most important thing to me is that it’s a chance for the churches to come together in unity,” says Joey Spiegel, executive director of Love INC. “We’re not made up on our own. We’re a partnership of local churches.”

Party at Johnny’s will benefit Harmony Home

A block party to benefit a transitional home for sober men will be held Sunday, Aug. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnny’s Drive-In, in Huntington.

The event to benefit Harmony Home will feature music, food and more, says organizer Rob Knorr.

Live music will be provided by Rahzenburg, and the menu will feature burgers, hot dogs, deep-fried Twinkies and more.
There will be a silent auction and bake sale to raise funds.

A dunk tank and bounce house will also be on site, clowns will be on hand and Batman is scheduled to make an appearance.

The band All For One performs Sunday evening, July 23, on the Heartland REMC Outdoor Stage at the Huntington County Fairgrounds as the 2017 Huntington County 4-H Fair kicked into high gear for its final week. The performance followed a brief worship service by Jason Parsons and Heather Parsons.

Bicycle poker run and swap meet are part of this year’s Ride 2 Remember

The fifth annual Ride 2 Remember will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, at Elmwood Park, in Huntington.

The day-long event, which will include a bicycle ride and more, is sponsored by Hoodratz Alternative Transportation Club and friends to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s Disease.

All ages are invited to participate in a bicycle poker run starting at Elmwood Park and through Laurie, Erie and Memorial parks before returning to Elmwood. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the ride will take off at 9 a.m.

Hire earns promotion at Kids Kampus

Pathfinder Kids Kampus, the child care division of Pathfinder Services, has promoted Elizabeth Hire to interim administrator/Early Head Start director.

In this role, Hire is responsible for overseeing all programs in the child care facility in Huntington.

Hire has served as the Early Head Start assistant director since May 2016 and previously worked as a teacher.

Hire also attended preschool at the early learning center as a child and volunteered for the organization as a teenager.

DNR awards training grant to Mt. Etna VFD

Mt. Etna Volunteer Fire Department is among fire departments from 39 counties across Indiana that have been awarded more than $250,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grants.

Mt. Etna received $4,535 for safety training.

The grants, announced by Indiana Department of Natural Resources Director Cameron Clark, are administered by the DNR Division of Forestry and made available through the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

Dog fashion show will benefit shelter

A Dazzle Dog Fashion Show sponsored by Tipton Place will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, at 2:30 p.m. at the facility, located at 460 Forks of the Wabash Way, Huntington.

A fee is charged per dog, with proceeds going to the Huntington County Humane Society.

First, second and third place winners will be chosen.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

All dogs must have their shot records on hand.

Three HNHS graduates earn language certificates

Reagan Wohlford, Olivia Henderson and Emma Helmich, all 2017 graduates of Huntington North High School, are the first Huntington North students to earn the new Indiana Certificate of Multilingual.

The certificate is awarded to students who have achieved a functional level of proficiency in both the English language and one or more other languages.

The students tested at an advanced or intermediate high level in all skill areas of their second language.

Zanesville gears up for Summer Festival Saturday

A car show, craft show and a full day of baseball are only a few of the activities in store at the Zanesville Lions Club Summer Festival on Saturday, July 29, in Zanesville.

The festival’s car show will be held at the Zanesville United Methodist Church with music by  DJ Rich McCoy.

Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques are given to the first 50 entries. Early registration fee is discounted. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.

Entries for the car show can be mailed to PO Box 361, Zanesville, IN 46799. An entry fee is charged.
