Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center to hold two-part money mgt. w’shop

Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will host a two-part money management workshop on Tuesday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 18.

The focus of the workshop is on overall financial wellness, with an emphasis on building and improving credit scores to work toward home ownership. This workshop consists of two sessions of four hours each and is designed for anyone in the community who would like to improve their financial situation.

Andrews resident wins 3 awards at Pinto World Championship

Josie Eckert, of Andrews, won three awards at the Pinto World Championship Horse Show.

The event, in its 52nd year, ran from June 12 through 24 at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex, in Tulsa, OK.

Competing with her pinto, The High Rise, Eckert earned one World Champion in the Youth Junior Ideal Pinto English class and two Reserve World Champions in the Youth Novice Ideal Pinto English and Youth Junior Hunter Under Saddle classes.

Senior Center to host free concert on Aug. 11

Dave Lowe, a pianist and vocalist from Indianapolis, will perform a free concert on Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center, 500 MacGahan St., Huntington.

Lowe, originally from Logansport, has been entertaining audiences for 44 years. He is featured in restaurants and clubs in the Indianapolis area, performing music from the 1940s to the present.

The program is provided in cooperation with the Honeywell Foundation, Parkview Huntington Hospital and the Huntington County Council on Aging Senior Center.

County Council on Aging sponsoring bus trip to Indiana State Fair

The Huntington County Council on Aging will sponsor a bus trip to the Indiana State Fair, in Indianapolis, on Senior Day, Aug. 8.

The bus will leave from the former Kmart parking lot at 7:30 a.m., with Miller’s Merry Manor serving a free breakfast at 7 a.m. The bus will return at approximately 6 p.m.

Seniors will be provided with free shuttles around the fairgrounds.

The cost of the bus trip includes the roundtrip ride in a motor coach and a ticket to the fair. At least 35 people must sign up to make the trip a reality.

Summer picnic in works for HNHS Class of ‘74

A reunion committee is planning a summer picnic for all Huntington North High School Class of 1974 graduates.

Classmates will gather at the large pavilion at Memorial Park on Saturday, Aug. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. A picnic lunch, including soft drinks, will be served. There will be live music for entertainment.

To help the reunion committee plan accordingly food-wise, reservations are requested as soon as possible. To make a reservation, contact Sally Stephan Morrison at 417-3841 or sallymorr@frontier.com.

Wild Wednesday movie for Seniors is on the screen July 19 at Huntington 7

Seniors are invited to attend Wild Wednesday at the Huntington 7, 350 Hauenstein Rd., Huntington, on July 19.

This month’s movie is “The Founder,” the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making food and saw franchise potential. He pulled the company from the brothers and created a billion dollar empire.

Weigelt to play classics classics

“Classical on the Lawn,” a free concert featuring Nancy Weigelt on the piano, will be held Saturday, July 15, at 8 p.m. at 642 Helms Orange in Roanoke Bluffs, in Roanoke.

Weigelt will play favorite piano classical music pieces on the lawn outside. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and sit in the common area across the street.

Therapy dog grads

Three dogs and their owners certified as therapy dog teams graduated recently from Fort Wayne’s Three Rivers Visiting Dogs. Pictured (from left) are Carol Decker, of Bluffton, and Ollie; Sara Karst, of Huntington, and Mia; and Sharon Laupp, of Andrews, and Francis. The organization’s 103 volunteer members and 133 dogs visit 75 nursing homes, five area hospitals and other institutions.

Theater guild to host production July 14-15

Huntington Theatre Guild: Act II will host the summer production, “Gran-dma’s Attic,” on July 14 and July 15, at 7:30 p.m. both nights at Huntington North High School.

The play, written by Deanna Albertson, focuses on a group of grandchildren who discover clothing, pictures and other memorabilia in their grandmother’s attic. They reminisce about the stories grandma used to tell them and the many memories they cherish about her and their grandpa.

Homeschool orientation meeting set for July 20 at Huntington library

Huntington Area Home Educators will hold a homeschool orientation meeting for new homeschoolers on Thursday, July 20, at the Huntington Branch of the Huntington City-Township Public Library from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Information will be available on how to begin homeschooling, curriculum choices, current homeschool laws and more. All are welcome to attend this informational meeting.

Alzheimer support group to meet July 12 at PHH

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter offers free education for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Topics range from the basics of Alzheimer’s and dementia and how to identify the 10 warning signs to legal and financial planning and how to communicate throughout the various stages of the disease.

The next support group in Huntington will meet Wednesday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital, 2001 Stults Rd.
