Lancaster pupils receive all year honor roll kudos

Lancaster Elementary School has recognized the students who made the All A’s Honor Roll and the All A’s and B’s Honor Roll for the entire 2016-17 school year.

They are:

All A’s

Second grade — Lily Andrews, James Arivett, Clayton Ayoub, Charles Close, Dalton Couch, Alivia Everidge, Ava Getman, Hunter Gillespie, Brody Harris, Dalton Hoch and Dylan Husband.

Also, Ethan Johnson, Jasper Krumanaker, Kaine Landrum, Gracie Lautzenhiser, Dallas Lippencott, Jonathan Romero, Titus Schultz, Braylon Szelis, Zane Vatter and Harley Zumbrun.

Lancaster Elementary School has announced the names of students who earned honor roll status for the fourth quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

Roanoke Elementary honors its 4Q perfect attendance students

Roanoke Elementary School has recognized students who had perfect attendance for the fourth quarter of the 2016-17 school year. They are:

Celeste Ackley, Chloe Ackley, Lillian Ayers, Eric Beihold, Breyden Black, Brody Bolen, Bistyn Bonewitz, Carter Booher, Benjamin Bowers, Elijah Bowers and Emmett Brown.

Also, Lilian Campbell, Tyler Cassidy, Griffin Castle, Marshall Caylor, Wylan Caylor, Madison Chandler, Dylan Cissell, Elizabeth Colclesser, Ella Colclesser, Trinity Condon, Cyrus Conwell, Eli Conwell, Isaac Conwell and Audrey Crawford.

Section of Jefferson St. in Huntington to close Monday for AT&T work

Jefferson Street between State Street and Riverside Drive, in Huntington, will close on Monday morning, June 5, while contractors for AT&T work on underground utilities.

A local detour will be posted, the Indiana Department of Transportation says.

The work should be completed by Wednesday, June 7, at 6 p.m., weather permitting.

Huntington North High School’s Class of 2017 changes tassels

Huntington North High School’s Class of 2017 became graduates during the school’s graduation ceremony Friday evening, May 26, in North Arena.

The approximately 374 graduates were greeted by class Vice President Kevin King, with salutatorian Reagan Wohlford providing an address of welcome. The class also heard from valedictorian Emma Helmich and received diplomas from members of the Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees.

Relay for Life to hail year’s worth of holidays

A year’s worth of holidays will be celebrated during the 2017 Huntington County Relay For Life, which takes place on Saturday, June 10, from noon until midnight at Kriegbaum Field.   

Community members are invited to join in the celebration and cheer on relay participants as they raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

This year’s theme for the relay is “May All Your Holidays Be Purple,” and a different holiday will be celebrated each hour.

IDOE recognizes pair of local schools with honor

Two local schools have been recognized in the latest round of awards announced by the Indiana Department of Education.
For the third consecutive year, Lincoln Elementary School has been named a Family Friendly School for 2017-18.

That award recognizes schools that excel in the involvement of families and community in their students’ education.

Northwest Elementary School has been named a Four Star School for 2015-16, an honor given to schools that have earned an “A” school accountability rating and meet minimum passing rates on ISTEP and other tests.

CMS teachers use grant to teach collaboration

Crestview Middle Sch-ool teachers Mary Beth Crider and Cheryl Simms were awarded a Huntington County Community Foundation classroom education grant this past year to purchase building supplies for a series of collaborative hands-on engineering challenges.

Working as part of a team, students cultivated critical thinking skills through designing, testing and modifying tower prototypes.

Three retiring bus drivers log more than a century of service to HCCSC

The Huntington County Community Schools has some big seats to fill on its bus routes next fall, as three bus drivers who retired this spring took with them nearly a century and a quarter of experience.

Mark Fowerbaugh, Jeanie Larkey and Susan Miller were honored at a luncheon reception held Wednesday, May 24, in the district’s transportation garage, as family, friends and coworkers congratulated them and wished them well.
