Library programs focus on buildings and their stories Thursday, June 1, 2017 7:20 AM Children and teens can hear stories about Indiana landmark buildings and create their own structures in two events coming up at the Huntington and Markle branches of the Huntington City-Township Public Library. Representatives from Indiana Landmarks will talk about the stories that buildings tell at the Huntington branch on Thursday, June 8, at 6 p.m. in a Stories Buildings Tell session. Huntington University grad will lead kids’ music camp Thursday, June 1, 2017 7:19 AM Photo provided. The Children’s Choir of Huntington County will hold a summer music camp titled “A Night of Jazz” June 5 through June 9 at New Hope Church. Ja’Shon Burks, a music education graduate from Huntington University, will direct the camp. The five-day camp begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. with a performance on Thursday evening, June 8, for a Relay For Life dinner and a final concert for the general public on Friday evening, June 9. Outdoor Survival Skills classes for youth begin June 13 Monday, May 29, 2017 9:14 AM Outdoor Survival Skills, a series of hands-on opportunities for youth in grades three through 12, will begin on June 13. Youth will have the opportunity to learn about what to eat in the wild, how to start a fire, knife safety, drinkable water, outdoor cooking, locating and building shelter and more. The workshops will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Larry and Joyce Keiffer Family Living Building at the Huntington County Fairgrounds. The dates are June 13, July 11, Aug. 15, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10. National Register now includes Memorial Park Monday, May 29, 2017 9:11 AM Huntington officials recently learned that Memorial Park has been approved for listing on the National Register of Historical Places. Memorial Park is the seventh historic district in the city to be listed on the National Register, alongside eight National Register sites and numerous local single sites and districts.
