The summer festival in Zanesville has a new name and a new date.

The Zanesville Lions Club Summer Festival will be held on July 29, featuring a car show and a baseball tournament as well as vendor booths, a garage sale and food — but no parade.

The new festival is the successor to Homespun Day, which had traditionally been held over the Labor Day weekend.

Homespun Day fell victim to a lack of willing volunteers, says Melba Edwards, who has worked on both the old and the new festivals.

“We looked for people to volunteer,” she says, “and nobody did.”
