The 2017 recipients are: • Trevor Szelis, who will be a freshman this fall at Trine University in Angola pursuing a degree in civil engineering. He is the son of Trent and Amy Szelis, Huntington. • Alyssa Garver, a sophomore pursuing a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne. Markle library to start book club Monday, April 17, 2017 7:49 AM The Markle Branch of the Huntington City-Township Public Library has announced the start of its first official book club. The club will meet every fourth Monday of the month at 5 p.m., starting April 24, and meetings will involve discussing the book chosen for that week over coffee, provided free by Barkley Builders. ‘Pioneer Granny Doctor’ to be topic of Salamonie Senior Lunch May 1 Monday, April 17, 2017 7:48 AM “Millie: The Pioneer Granny Doctor” will be the featured program for the Salamonie Senior Luncheon at Salamonie Interpretive Center on May 1. Millie will be portrayed by Laura Whiteleather, an interpretive naturalist with Upper Wabash Interpretive Services. The character of Millie goes back to a time when doctors were few and far between. Pioneers depended on knowledge of medicinal plants passed down from generations to help relieve symptoms from illness. Quayle Center brings back designer purse Bingo Monday, April 17, 2017 7:45 AM The Quayle Vice Presidential Learning Center will hold its annual designer purse Bingo night, Spring Flingo, on Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in Rieder Auditorium of the Huntington Catholic Sch-ool Primary Building, adjacent to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington. Admission covers 20 games. Each game’s winner will receive a designer purse. Warren Scouts to serve lunch April 23 Monday, April 17, 2017 7:45 AM The Warren Scouts will host their first Sunday Luncheon on Sunday, April 23. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knight Bergman Center. The menu includes ham, chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw and desserts. Children younger than 6 eat free. Profits from the luncheon will be used to pay for boys to go to camp over the summer, new Scout equipment and an upcoming Eagle Scout project.
