HCS names perfect att. for second quarter

Huntington Catholic School has honored students who achieved perfect attendance during the second quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

They are:

Kindergarten – Ethan Fowerbaugh, Evalyn Dolby and Rilynne Lewis.

First grade – Steven Ball, Rebecca Barnard, Claire Fettinger and Genevieve Harrell.

Second grade – Zariah Tinoco and Xaver Tinoco.

Fourth grade – Lillian Brumbaugh, Penelope Harrell, Augustus Kline, Grant Rosen, Samantha Stetzel, Justin Teusch and Garrett Thomas.

Fifth grade – Adam Holzinger, Jax Mickley and Ellen Rorick.

Three celebrate anniversaries at PHD

PHD, Inc. in Huntington has recognized several employees on their service anniversaries up in January.

Steve Esterhai will have 30 years of service with PHD on Jan. 19. He is a senior planner/expeditor at the Huntington facility.

Bill Bannister will have 40 years of service with PHD on Jan. 12. He is a fixture/designer supervisor at the Huntington facility.

Troy Weinley will have 30 years of service with PHD on Jan. 14. He is a quality supervisor in the Huntington facility.

UW accepting grant applications

The United Way of Huntington County is now accepting applications from all 501(c)(3) organizations that serve Huntington County and who have a role to play in enhancing the life for all in Huntington County in the areas of educational, health and wellness and financial stability.

This is an annual, open and competitive process where funds are allocated toward one or more of the areas. Each organization must be able to demonstrate how it plans to connect in the goals that were established by the community through ongoing conversation.

ADTPL begins new reading program

The Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library is inviting families to warm up this winter by reading together during the “Make Tracks and Read!” program, which runs through Feb. 25.

Families record the amount of time they spend reading, individually or together. Reading aloud to each other counts double.

Every hour spent reading earns the family a mini prize and a ticket for a chance to win one of the grand prize baskets. Prize tickets can also be earned by attending library programs and enjoying other family activities.

4-H calendar set for week of Jan. 16

The Huntington County office of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service has announced this week’s 4-H activities.

Y to hold beer tasting fund-raiser

The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA will host a “Raise A Glass” beer tasting fund-raiser on Jan. 28, to benefit its programs and services in the community.

The event will feature 12 different locally-crafted beers produced by members of the Huntington Beer Collective, some of them available to the public for the first time.

Registration for the event will feature tastings of a dozen different brews, including ales, India pale ales, stouts, porters and more.

Science series to begin at Extension

A six-session “Science Investigators” series will begin March 28, at the Huntington County office of Purdue Extension.

The series is open to current 4-H members as well as non-members in grades six through eight. They will take part in hands-on activities, challenges and opportunities to have fun with science.

Sessions will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Extension office, located in the Huntington County Courthouse Annex, 1340 S. Jefferson St., Huntington. The fee includes all supplies and materials.

Huntington-based Shuttleworth celebrating 55 years in business

Huntington-based Shuttleworth LLC, a manufacturer of product handling solutions, is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.

Shuttleworth has grown from a small machinery company to an internationally recognized supplier of integrated conveyor systems.

The company opened its doors in 1962 when founder Jim Shuttleworth purchased the machinery portion of the company owned by his father, Charles Shuttleworth, and moved the operations to Huntington.
