Carroll Scholarship dinner Saturday

The Scott Carroll Memorial Scholarship Benefit, featuring breakfast, lunch and supper, will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke.

The event will begin with a hunter’s breakfast from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Attendees will have a choice of breakfast casserole and toast or biscuits and gravy. Coffee and juice will be served as beverages.

The lunch will feature pulled pork sandwiches served with homemade macaroni shells and cheese.

Four PHH therapists get new certifications

Four staff members of the Parkview Huntington Hospital Rehabilitation and Wellness Center have received new certifications. They are (from left) Lynn Merrill, Mike Sands, Cory Fornal and Kim Case.

Four Parkview Huntington Hospital physical therapists have earned new certifications.

Lynn Merrill earned a certification in lymphedema therapy, including techniques to decongestive techniques to discourage swelling (edema) and encourage better functioning of the lymphatic system.

Kim Case earned a Level 1 certification in intramuscular stimulation, also known as myofascial trigger point dry needling. Dry needling, new to Parkview Huntington, involves the insertion of needles into the skin and soft tissue beneath to treat pain, stiffness and poor muscle function.

Central Christian youth set Parents’ Night Out

The Triple C Youth of Central Christian Church will host two Parents’ Night Out sessions, on Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Both sessions will be held at the church, located at 500 MacGahan St., Huntington, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The sessions are open to potty-trained preschoolers through fifth-graders.

They will play games, eat snacks, watch a movie and more. A fee is charged per child, with  a maximum per family.

Autumn Steak Supper at St. Peter’s First Community set for Nov. 12

An Autumn Steak Supper will be served on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s First Community Church, 206 Etna Ave., Huntington.

The menu includes baked steak, gravy, baked potato, green beans, Jell-O salad or applesauce, roll, home-baked pie or Texas sheet cake, coffee, orange drink and tea.

Advance tickets at a discount are available at St. Peter’s First Community Church at 356-7728 until Nov. 10. Tickets are also available at the Party Shop, 413 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. There will be minimal tickets available at the door.

Parkview Samaritan earns accreditation

Parkview Health leaders have announced that the Parkview Samaritan air transport and mobile intensive care units have earned accreditation by The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

It is the region’s only CAMTS-accredited medical transport system and one of only five accredited systems in the state. The accreditation is valid through September 2019.

Community churches to join for Thanksgiving

Community churches will meet for a combined Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s First Community Church.

The service is an opportunity for area congregations to worship and give thanks together.

Worship music will be led by Matt Hann, of College Park United Brethren Church, and the speaker will be Arthur Wilson, from Huntington University Ministries.

St. Peter’s First Community Church is located at 206 Etna Ave., Huntington.

Lions to receive Christmas trees on Nov. 19

The Huntington Lions Club will receive its annual shipment of Christmas trees on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 a.m. at the Scout Cabin, across from the Sunken Gardens at 1205 W. Park Drive, in Huntington. Local Boy Scout Troop 137 will help unload and set up the trees.

Evergreens that will be available for sale include Scotch pine and Fraser fir. The Lions will also have grapefruit and oranges for sale during the holiday season.

Business hours will be Thursdays from 1 to 6 p.m., Fridays from 1 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.

Choir to visit Calvary UM

The Whitko Gospel Choir will perform at Bippus Calvary United Methodist Church, in Huntington, on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to attend the performance.

As the choir does not receive funding from its school, a freewill offering will be held to assist the group with its expenses.

The church is located in Bippus at 7955N-900W, Huntington.

Business of the month

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, in Huntington, has been named the November Business of the Month by the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce. HU gets 34th rank among Christian schools

Huntington University has been ranked 34th in Christian Universities Online’s list of 2017’s Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the U.S.

This is Christian Universities Online’s third annual top 50 ranking of Christian Colleges and Universities in the U.S. This ranking seeks to highlight intentionally Christian colleges and universities that excel in categories of personal attention to their students, selectivity, readily available financial aid and overall student satisfaction.
