County kids can get letter from Santa

Huntington Parks and Recreation is helping Santa write his letters to the boys and girls of Huntington County.

Parents can find applications to receive a letter starting on Nov. 14 at the park office, located on 634 Webster St., Huntington; on the Huntington Parks and Recreation Facebook page; or on the city website, www.huntington.in.us. Applications must be completed no later than Sunday, Dec. 18.

All letters will be mailed no later than Dec. 21. Recipients must live in Huntington County.

Andrews Elementary School has recognized students who earned honor roll status for the first quarter of the 2016-2017 school year.

Roanoke Elementary School names its perfect attendance students for first quarter

Roanoke Elementary School has honored students who achieved perfect attendance during the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

City recognizes Nov. 1 as ‘Extra Mile Day’

The City of Huntington will mark Tuesday, Nov. 1, as “Extra Mile Day,” recognizing the community members who “go the extra mile” for the betterment of their communities.

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters issued a proclamation on Oct. 17 acknowledging the special day, inviting representative volunteers to witness the ceremony.

So far in 2016, more than 2,000 individual volunteers have donated more than 7,500 hours working on projects around the city, said Andrew Rensberger, the city’s community engagement and volunteer coordinator.

HU to collaborate with Evangelical Seminary

Huntington University has announced a year-long collaboration with Evangelical Seminary of Myerstown, PA.

The goal of the collaboration is to determine if the needs of both institutions can be better met by integrating the faculty, staff and students of Evangelical Seminary into Huntington University.

“We are blessed to have had many graduates pursue advanced degrees there, as well as the honor of having three graduates serve as the seminary’s president,” noted Dr. Sherilyn Emberton, president of Huntington University.

Riverfork Drive West to close Oct. 31 to start water main work

Riverfork Drive West will be closed just north of Yeoman Way starting today, Monday, Oct. 31, to allow Star Excavating to install a new water main.

The contractor anticipates that the closure will last approximately two days. Individuals that work on or south of Yeoman Way will need to use Riverfork Drive West.

For traffic typically north of Yeoman Way, motorists will need to use Riverfork Drive East. Appropriate signage will be installed directing motorists.

4 from Riverview Middle School are LAC top artists for October

Four students from Riverview Middle School were named Artists of the Month for October by the LaFontaine Arts Council.

Each month during the school year, LAC recognizes students in middle and high school for outstanding achievements in the fine arts.

Riverview students recognized were Karina Clifford, seventh grade, and Rylie Farr, Maggie Park and Zach Zehner, all eighth grade.

Clifford, the daughter of Chasity Riley and Jason Oppy, of Andrews, was nominated by her art teacher, Arlene Parsons.

Flint Springs names 1Q honor roll students

Flint Springs Elementary School has announced the names of students who earned honor roll status for the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

Fall bazaar coming up at St. Peter Lutheran Church

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 605 Polk St., Huntington, will have its fall bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Booths featured include baked goods, holiday items, Rada knives, spatulas and peelers and two quilts made by St. Peter Quilters.

Lunch will be available for purchase.

The bazaar will all be on one level. Enter at the John Street entrance.

Pathfinder class will serve potential home buyers

The Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center will offer a two-part Home Buyer Education class in November at its office at 1005 W. Rudisill Blvd., Fort Wayne.

Sessions will be held Nov. 2 and 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The eight-hour class will explore what is necessary to become a successful home buyer and homeowner.

A fee is charged.
