Cole Hahn, of Huntington, is now stationed in California with the United States Marine Corps.

Hahn is a 2016 graduate of Huntington North High School. He graduated from boot camp in September, from Marine Combat Training in November and from Basic Combatives Course in December.

He is the son of Roger and Shannon Hahn, of Huntington.

Six county officials take oaths Friday in ceremony

Six Huntington County officials, all of whom won election or re-election to their offices in November, were sworn in Friday afternoon, Dec. 30, during a ceremony held in the Huntington County Courthouse rotunda.

Huntington County Clerk Kittie Keiffer welcomed family members and friends to the ceremony, which was opened with an invocation by Larry Buzzard. Buzzard was later sworn in to his second term as a Huntington County Commissioner.

Tom Wall, who was sworn in to his third term as a commissioner, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Honoring outgoing school board president

Huntington County Community School Corporation School Board of Trustees President Scott Hoffman (right) receives a plaque in recognition of his more than 14 years of service to the corporation from HCCSC Superintendent Randy Harris. The presentation was made during the school board meeting on Monday, Dec. 19. Hoffman, who did not seek another term on the board, was a board member from June 2002 through December 2016, serving through the years as secretary, vice president and president.

Outgoing Huntington County Community School Corporation School Board Trustee Holly Thompson (right) receives a plaque in recognition of her service to the corporation from HCCSC Superintendent Randy Harris. The presentation was made during the school board meeting held Monday, Dec. 19. Harris said Thompson, who was the board’s vice president this year, was a school board member from January 2013 to December 2016.

Huntington Police Dept. swears in new officer and adds three reserves to program

A new full-time officer has joined the Huntington Police Department, and the department’s reserve officer program have grown by three.

The four new officers were sworn in on Thursday, Dec. 22.

Evan Rhoades, the new full-time officer,  is returning to Indiana from Columbia, SC, where he was working as ticket account manager for the Columbia Fireflies, a minor league baseball team.

Rhoades is a 2011 graduate of Homestead High School and a 2015 graduate of Ball State University.

Keckler graduates from basic at Lackland AFB

Airman JoAnn E. Keckler, of Huntington, graduated from basic military training on Nov. 11, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, TX.

She is currently attending tech school at Sheppard Air Force Base, in Texas.

Keckler is a 2016 graduate of Huntington North High School. She was sworn in to the United States Air Force Base on June 17.

Her parents are Eric and Jodi Stouder, of Huntington, and Ted Keckler, of Constantine, MI.

Miller, Kline at seminar

Terry Miller and Ron Kline, incoming members of the Huntington County Council, attended the Association of Indiana Counties Newly Elected Officials Seminar Dec. 15 in Indianapolis.

The seminar drew more than 200 elected county officials from across Indiana.

They learned about purchasing and public bidding, employee-employer issues and basics of county budgeting.

In recognition of school board service
