Woman wants photo business in home

The Huntington Board of Zoning Appeals will meet tonight, Monday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. to consider a request by Emily Goedesky that she be allowed to operate a photography business at 1134 Cherry St.

The property is zoned residential, and Goedesky is requesting a special exception for a home business.

The meeting will be held in the city council chambers on the third floor of the City Building.

Voters in the second district of the Huntington County Community School Corporation's board of trustees have the choice of returning the board's president for a second term or selecting a newcomer to serve on the board.

Kevin Patrick, who has served as the board's president for three years, is up against newcomer Jon A. Moore on the ballot.

Two candidates are competing for the Jackson Township trustee seat.

Sheila Hines, the incumbent, and Terri Edmiston are both running on the Republican ticket for the party's nomination to the four-year position.

Township trustees must arrange for fire and ambulance service for unincorporated locations; oversee weed control, cemeteries and burials for those who do not have enough funds; keep and maintain a township budget; assess property in his or her township; and provide assistance to the poor if needed.

Larry Brewster and ­Kathy Morton are both seeking the Republican nomination to succeed Robert Morton as Warren Township trustee.

Public hearing May 11 on proposed $15 a month services fee in Huntington

A public hearing will be held on May 11, during the regular meeting of the Huntington Common Council, on an ordinance proposing the imposition of a $15 services fee on Huntington residents.

The ordinance establishing the fee was introduced to the council during its meeting on Tuesday morning, April 27. No vote was taken.

The council's May 11 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, located on the third floor of the City Building.

The Republican ticket for sheriff in the May 4 primary features a battle of the brown and the blue.

Candidates are Tom Carney, a 21-year veteran of the Huntington County Sheriff's Department, and Terry Stoffel, a long-time officer and former chief of the Huntington Police Department.

The sheriff serves both the county and the state, according to the Association of Indiana Counties.

Three candidates are competing for the Republican nomination for the position of Huntington County Assessor.

Incumbent Terri Boone is going up against Joan Stoffel and Donald Schoeff for the position.

The assessor is responsible for determining the assessed value of all properties in the county and to confirm those values with the county auditor. The assessor also handles taxpayer property assessment appeals. The assessor only establishes the value of the property and has nothing to do with the tax rate.
