The bridge on Ind.-124 over the Salamonie River, located between CR 350W and CR 300W, will close for up to two weeks beginning today, Monday, June 19.
The closure is weather dependant.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a $1.1 million contract to Pioneer and Associates to conduct maintenance on the Salamonie River bridge as well as other bridges throughout its Fort Wayne District.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the work, INDOT says.
The official detour will be Ind.-9 to Ind.-218 to I-69 to Ind.-5.

The City of Huntington Redevelopment Commission will hold a special meeting on Friday, June 30, at 10 a.m.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers on the third floor of the City Building, 300 Cherry St., Huntington.

Smoking at city parks and trails would be discouraged — or banned outright — if the Huntington Common Council takes action on a suggestion made by the father of young sons.
Anthony Lisinicchia, accompanied by his oldest son, Angelo, spoke to the council during its meeting on Tuesday, June 13. He asked the members to consider passing an ordinance banning smoking at the parks and trails.

U.S. Air Force Airman Daniel C. Jacobs, of Huntington, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, in San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Christopher Goff
Governor Eric J. Holcomb has selected Wabash County Superior Court Judge Christopher M. Goff as the next member of the Indiana Supreme Court.
Goff, 45, a former Huntington resident, will replace Justice Robert D. Rucker, who retired from the Indiana Supreme Court in May after nearly 18 years.
Goff was appointed in 2005 to the Wabash County Superior Court, where he maintains a general civil and criminal docket.

The Huntington Board of Public Works and Safety will hold special meetings on July 10 and July 24, both at 3:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers in the Huntington City Building.
The board has canceled meetings on July 3 and 17.

Residents of Norwood Estates and Yake Subdivision are invited to attend a meeting of the Norwood Regional Sewer and Water District on Saturday, June 17, at 9 a.m. at the Andrews Town Hall, 316 Main St., Andrews.
A recently-approved increase in the fees charged by the Andrews wastewater utility, which serves both housing additions, will be discussed.

Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees, fresh from meeting in an earlier executive session, accepted the retirement of Riverview Middle School Principal Curt Crago, the resignation of Riverview Middle School Assistant Principal Michael Parsons and the hiring of a new principal for the middle school during its regular meeting on Monday, June 12.
All three action items were part of a long list of consent agenda items and were not separated from the grouping for individual consideration or discussion by board members.

The Town of Warren could be looking for a new supplier of electricity, members of the Warren Town Council learned during their meeting on Monday, June 12.
The town currently contracts with AEP to purchase electricity wholesale, and the power is then distributed to customers by the town electric utility. That contract ends in five years.

The Andrews Town Council looked ahead to obtaining more state funding to repave streets in town during its meeting on Monday, June 12.
Council President Bill Johnson said that he anticipated the state would start approving street projects in August. Currently, the board is debating how much funding it wants to chip in for the next round of repaving. The state’s funding formula for such projects has transitioned from a 50/50 match to a 75/25 match, with municipalities only having to foot the bill for a quarter of a project.

The opening time for the regularly scheduled Town of Warren Council meeting for today, Monday, June 12, has been rescheduled to 4 p.m. to allow discussion time with the financial consultant in regard to current projects and financial planning.
The main agenda portion of the meeting will begin at 5 p.m. as scheduled.

The Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session today, Monday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Horace Mann Education Center.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining.
The regular school board meeting will follow at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that chip seal preservation is scheduled on Ind.-105 in Huntington County.
Work is scheduled for Ind.-105 in Huntington County, between Ind.-9 and the south limits of the Town of Andrews. INDOT maintenance crews are expected to begin on or after Monday, June 12, weather permitting.
