The Huntington County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the district office, located at 2040 Riverfork Drive, Huntington.
The meeting is open to the public.

The Roanoke Town Council addressed complaints about the briefness of the town’s recent spring clean-up day at its meeting on Tuesday, June 6.
The town’s supervisor of operations, Phil Hibbert, reported that dumpsters for the clean-up day on Saturday, June 3, were delivered to town hall by Republic Services in the morning and retrieved by approximately 2 p.m.

It was a night in which public comment became a plea to save the schools, as concerned parents addressed the Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees during a public work session held Monday, June 5.
It was the largest-attended work session since they began earlier in the spring. Most were there to make a plea to keep their home elementary schools open, as the board contemplates how to handle the reduction in enrollment juxtaposed with growing repair needs on some of the aging school buildings.

The Huntington Board of zoning Appeals will meet tonight, Monday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Huntington City Building, 300 Cherry St., Huntington.
The panel will consider a request by David Wisialowski for a variance to required setbacks for a pole sign at 1105 First St. Wisialowski is seeking a three-foot variance from the five-foot minimum front yard setback requirement.

The Huntington Subdivision Plat Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 6, at 2 p.m. in the conference room of the Community Development and Redevelopment office on the second floor of the Huntington City Building.
The committee will consider an application filed by Biggs Indiana Properties requesting a replat of lots 62, 63 and 64 in Crown Hill Farm Subdivision, Section III.

A bill sponsored by State Sen. Andy Zay, R-Huntington, and State Rep. Christopher Judy, R-Fort Wayne, to increase penalties for cyber criminals was ceremonially signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb on May 25.
Judy says cyber criminals have increasingly been using ransomware, a malicious software that is designed to block access to computers and smartphones until a sum of money is paid by the victim.

The Huntington Common Council has canceled its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 30, because of a lack of items on the agenda.

All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches will be closed Saturday, May 27, through Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.
Branches will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, May 30.

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) introduced a bill directing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work to eliminate excess printed material the agency spends millions of dollars a year storing.
“This bill would increase oversight of the EPA, make better use of taxpayer funds and reduce the size of the EPA’s footprint,” said Banks.
“It’s important in the modern digital age to make sure the management procedures of government agencies are up to date. Increasing accountability at these agencies is crucial to the efficient use of taxpayer dollars.”

Few action items were on the agenda of the Huntington County Community School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees at its regular meeting on Monday, May 22, but members set the stage for a busy public work session and subsequent board meeting to come.
The board voted 6-0 to award a contract to Wayne Asphalt to repave the front section of the high school parking lot, at a cost of $117,000. Board member Reed Christiansen was absent.
