Rylie Lynn Bowman takes the Heartland REMC Outdoor Stage on Tuesday, July 28, to perform for the crowd at the Huntington County 4-H Fair. Bowman, a 10-year 4-H member, Huntington resident and 2015 graduate of Huntington North High School, is continuing her music career in Nashville, TN.

Chenoweth earns Huntington County’s 2015 Outstanding 4-H Leader honor

A surprised Marsha Chenoweth was called forward Monday, July 27, to receive the prestigious 2015 Outstanding 4-H Leader award, chosen by her peers as representing the best of those who work with Huntington County’s youths.

She was recognized during a ceremony at the Huntington County 4-H Fair in which the volunteer leaders’ tenure was recognized. The outdoor stage at the Huntington County Fairgrounds was filled with leaders from clubs across the county.

Tenure honors

Daniel Hardy (left), of Roanoke, and Julie Winters, of Huntington, were named 4-H Tenure winners Monday, July 27, during a ceremony at the Huntington County 4-H Fair recognizing 10-year and graduating members. They each received $75 from the Indiana Farm Bureau for their accomplishments in 4-H.

Friend of Extension

Sharon Ernst, of Roanoke, holds the plaque she received after she was announced as the 2015 Huntington County Friend of Extension at the Huntington County 4-H Fair. She has been a 4-H leader for 29 years in the Four Leaf Clovers, Mini 4-H and Waggin’ Tails Dog Club, and has been active in the Amicitia Homemakers Club in Jackson Township for more than 20 years. She is also a master gardener, volunteering more than 2,000 hours in the past 15 years.

Supreme showmanship competition

Champion showmen in the starter calf, beef, swine, sheep, goat, dairy and horse and pony projects came together to determine the supreme showmanship championship, where each entrant showed one of each species to determine the 4-H’er with the top showman skills. Competitors also took a written test covering their knowledge of all species.
