Emotions ran high at the Knight-Bergman Center Friday morning as the community of Warren honored and remembered a beloved member of the community.

Bonnie Boxell and her late husband Ronald "Big Ron" Boxell were honored as the 2012 Samuel Jones Pioneer Award recipients during a breakfast held at the Knight-Bergman Center on Friday, June 29.

 

Warren Area Antique Tractor Show to feature John Deere equipment

The 2012 Warren Area Antique Tractor and Engine Club will feature John Deere tractors, engines and farm machinery on June 29, 30 and July 1 at its annual show.

The show is held on the grounds of the Daugherty Companies, 534 E. 1st St., Warren in conjunction with the Salamonie Summer Festival. The event is expected to draw a large number of John Deere collectors for the weekend.

 

Correction -- Pie and Ice cream at church is a charged event

In the June 25 edition of the Huntington County TAB, it was incorrectly stated that free pie and ice cream will be served at the Warren Church of Christ, in the Salamonie Summer Festival article on page 24.

There is a cost for the event, which is sponsored by Tri Kappa.

The TAB apologizes for the error and any inconveniences it might have caused.

New events join Salamonie Summer Festival lineup

As the community of Warren gears up for another Salamonie Summer Festival, attendees can expect familiar attractions as well as a few new events.

Festival Chairman Denny Stroud says that one of the biggest draws will be the ranch rodeo.

"The event models a competition from back in the day," he says. "Ranches used to put together teams and competed against each other in different events."

This year's events, Stroud notes, include calf roping, corralling and milking a wild cow and cow branding.

 

Salamonie Summer Festival to feature new ‘ranch rodeo’

Ranch Rodeo will come to the Salamonie Summer Festival in Warren on June 30 starting at 7 p.m.

The event will be held below the hill at Knight Bergman Center, and will serve as a tribute to the cowboys who worked on the ranches by featuring competition between real cowboys from real working ranches.

The cowboys and their ranch horses will compete in events that showcase the necessary skills and know-how that ranch hands practice on a daily basis.

 

Bicycle Parade to be a part of Salamonie Summer Festival

A Bicycle Parade will be part of this year's Salamonie Summer Festival in Warren.

The parade will wind through downtown Warren on Saturday, June 30, beginning at 9 a.m.

The parade is open to youth ages 3 to 13 years.

Decorated bicycles will line up at the corner of Wayne and Third streets. The parade route travels south on Wayne Street and end at the main festival stage.

Bikes will be judged based on most colorful, closest to theme and wildest decoration.

 

Lawnmower races at SSF

The Salamonie Summer Festival will host lawn mower races from 2-4 p.m. at the Knight-Bergman Center grounds in Warren on July 1.

Lawn mower racing is a type of motor sport where participants race modified riding lawn mowers.

Nearly all of the machines used in these races are older ones that racers remodeled for racing.

The mow-wheeling racing league will be racing. The group is based out of Roann.
