Markle is Santa’s next stop in county

The community of Markle welcomes the Christmas season with Christmas in "Our Town" on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The day-long celebration includes food, a craft show, a soup supper, horse and buggy rides, live reindeer and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

Santa will ride a fire truck into town, arriving at the Markle Church of Christ at 9:30 a.m. for a breakfast in his honor. Santa will be available at the church for photos from 10 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Fetters to host Christmas open house at City Building on Dec. 11

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters will host a Christmas open house at the city building on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The open house will be held on the third floor, and light refreshments will be served.

Art work by first and second grade students from Flint Springs and Lincoln Elementary schools will be on display.

The City Building is located at 300 Cherry St., Huntington.

 

Lions Club Christmas tree sales in full swing

The Huntington Lions Club Christmas Tree Sales project is in full-swing, at the Scout Cabin, located on West Park Drive in Huntington.

Scotch Pine and Fraser Fir trees are for sale Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m.

Sales will continue through Dec. 19.

Christmas celebration at restored school building has a German focus

Luminarias will light the way to the Old German school on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. for the sixth annual German Christmas candlelight program.

The Sharp Creek Singers will again present traditional Christmas music.

A sixth-generation descendant of the original Schenkel family will sing "Stille Nacht."

The Christmas story from the Gospel of St. Luke will be read in English and German.

A wild cedar tree with German decorations and candles will also be a feature and memories of the German settlement will be shared.

Christmas displays in Shakespeare Gardens at Memorial Park glow in the darkness after a lighting ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 1. The lights in Shakespeare Gardens and the adjacent Sunken Gardens, both along West Park Drive in Huntington, will be turned on from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day through Jan. 1.

Heritage Pointe hosts festival of trees this weekend

Heritage Pointe, in Warren, will host a festival of trees Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6 through 8.

Trees will be on display in the Fults Recreation Room at Heritage Pointe. Many traditional, department and theme trees will be exhibited.

Visitors can vote on a people's choice award, with the winner to be announced on Sunday. Light refreshments will be served.

Hours for the festival of trees are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Christmas program set at LDS

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold a Christmas program on Friday, Dec. 6, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Musical selections will be presented by the youth and other members of the church.

A living nativity, accompanied by a narrative from the gospel of Luke, will also be presented.

Light refreshments will be served.

 

Church to serve free Yule meal

Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, in Andrews, will serve a free Christmas dinner to residents of the Andrews community on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The meal will be served from noon until 2 p.m. at the church, located at 116 S. Main St., in Andrews.
