Salamonie Summer Festival takes center stage July 2-5

The 2009 Salamonie Summer Festival will be held on July 2 through 5, in Warren.

To kick off the event, the annual Samuel L. Jones Pioneer Breakfast will be held at the Knight Bergman Center Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 a.m. It is sponsored by the Warren Chamber of Commerce.

Also on Thursday, a number of activities will take place at Tower Park.

The food court will be open from 5 to 11 p.m.

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Warren Sportsman Club will host an open house, which will include free fishing games for children.

Alford, Huff and Leas to reign over Salamonie Summer Festival

Elley Leas, Delaney Huff and Sara Alford were crowned Salamonie Summer Festival Princess, Junior Miss and Queen, respectively, during a pageant held Sunday, June 28, at the Warren Church of Christ.

Leas is the daughter of Mick and Shonna Leas. She was also named Most Photogenic.

Her sponsor was Hagerman Construction.

First runner-up was Hailey Rose Alford, daughter of Sarah Scheiber and Richard Alford.

Alford's sponsor was Salamonie Mills.

Mayor Steve Updike serves the first piece of cake to Sheriff Kent Farthing Friday, June 26, at the Huntington Visitor and Convention Bureau. The ceremony celebrated the opening of this year’s tourism season. The public is invited to stop by the bureau to pick up free Huntington County and Indiana travel information.
