Josi Barscz, a 10-year and fourth generation 4-H member from Lancaster Township, was crowned the 2018 Huntington County 4-H Royalty Champion Friday, July 13, at First Merchants Bank Heritage Hall on the Huntington County Fairgrounds.
The 2017 Royalty Champion, Larissa Johnson, placed the crown on Barscz’ head and presented her with a sash and bouquet of red roses. Barscz, the daughter of Ben and Jennifer Barscz, represented the Mighty Clovers 4-H Club, where she serves as vice president.
Dogs and their 4-H handlers strutted their stuff for a crowd of parents, onlookers and judges on Saturday, July 7, at the First Federal Savings Bank Community Building in one of the first events of the 2018 Huntington County 4-H Fair.
Three top dogs took honors in the show. Adalyn Cutting was the champion in the junior class; Carter Zezula was the champion in the intermediate class; and Sarah Landers was named champion in the senior class.
Champion and reserve champion honors were presented in each class, with placings following, starting with first place.
One of the great things about the Huntington County 4-H Fair is that while nearly every event is the same as in past years, those participating in them often change, as they grow older and take on different projects at the fair, while new 4-H members come up through the ranks in hopes of taking home the top ribbons.
The 88th annual fair runs from July 13 to July 27, with the theme “We Are the Dreamers of Tomorrow.”
