HU netwomen lose to Olivet

The Huntington University women’s tennis team suffered a 2-7 loss to Olivet College on Saturday, March 25, at Minges Creek Athletic Club, in Battle Creek, MI.

With only five players, the Foresters opened the match in an 0-2 hole due to forfeits, and never climbed out, falling to 1-1 this spring and 9-4 overall.

Huntington’s lone wins came at first and second singles. In the No. 1 match, Meg Dolde dispatched Maddy Drikakis, 6-4, 6-2, while the second tilt saw Anastasiia Evstifeeva top Rachel Hager, 6-4, 7-5.

Foresters go 2-1 in weekend series against SAU

The Huntington University baseball team went 2-1 against visiting Spring Arbor University in a three-game series played on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25.

The Foresters kicked off the trio of games with a 10-6 win on Friday. The Cougars evened the series with a 10-9 triumph later on Friday before Coach Mike Frame’s squad came back to win the rubber match on Saturday in dominant fashion, 19-3.

Sisk wins $1,000 scholarship with victory over Richmond in Empire

Jakob Sisk won a $1,000 scholarship for winning the fourth annual Empire Open bowling tournament on Sunday, March 19, at Rainbow Lanes, in Huntington.

Sisk topped Matt Richmond in the two-game championship roll-off, 426-343.

Sisk, who placed second in his division with 1,062 pins after five games to receive one of four byes into the second round of match play, beat Jarracah Heibel and Joey Litton to make the finals against Richmond, who took home $600 for his runner-up finish.

Furrow blast earns HU softball team twinbill sweep over MVNU

A two-run home run by Camille Furrow proved to be the game-winner in the second game and earned the Huntington University softball team a doubleheader sweep over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday, March 21.

The Foresters, 8-7-1, won the first game, 3-1, behind a three-hitter by pitcher Lairen Miller, but trailed MVNU, 4-2, entering the bottom of the fourth inning. A Casey Lehman sacrifice fly and a Cougar error helped the Foresters knot the contest at 4-4 before Furrow launched a moon shot over the center field fence for what turned out to be game-winner.

Moore gem gives Foresters twinbill split with MVNU

Sophomore D.J. Moore threw a two-hit shutout in the first game to lead the Huntington University baseball team to a split with visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday, March 22.

The Foresters, 8-6, won the opener, 6-0, before losing the nightcap, 7-5.

Moore, a right-hander from Fort Wayne, struck out six and walked only one to tame the Cougars, 15-9.

His teammates gave him all the support he needed in the first inning when Adam Roser was hit by a pitch and came around to score on singles by Shea Beauchamp and Tyler Zimkse.

HU's Palmer an NAIA First Team All-America pick

Miranda Palmer, a senior on the Huntington University women’s basketball team, is one of 10 athletes recently named NAIA First Team All-America this season.

An honorable mention pick as sophomore and second team selection last year, Palmer led the Foresters in points, 21.3; assists, 3.7; and steals, 1.9, to go along with pulling down 2.9 rebounds per outing in her final campaign.

Forester diamond men upset No. 22 Reinhard twice

While the weather limited the Huntington University baseball team to just two games over spring break, the Foresters made the most of it by upsetting No. 22 Reinhardt University twice on the Eagles’ home field, 9-2, 3-1, on Tuesday, March 14.

The Foresters, 6-5, struck early and often in game one to take control, 6-1, by the fourth inning with the Eagles’ only run up to that point coming in the second.

Furrow heroics push HU women to softball split

Strong pitching and hitting by Camille Furrow led the Huntington University softball team to a 5-3 win over Valley City State University on Wednesday, March 15, at the Tucson Invitational Games.

The Foresters’ second game of the day, against Purdue University Northwest, saw the team fall in nine innings, 8-7, to finish its spring break trip with a 4-4 record.

Foust heading to Bluffton
