Lady Falcons win it all

The Flint Springs Lady Falcons recently won the girls’ third and fourth-grade division of the KIM League basketball tournament at the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA. The tournament championship game win capped an undefeated season for the Lady Falcons. Rebels emerge victorious

The Salamonie Rebels recently won the boys’ third and fourth-grade division of the KIM League basketball tournament at the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA. The Rebels won three games in as many days, which included a quadruple-overtime contest in semifinals. In the championship game, the squad edged the Northwest Irish by three points. Frosh doesn't play like rookie in college debut as HU softball squad wins

Freshman Camille Furrow played nothing like a rookie in her collegiate debut to help lead the Huntington University softball team to a 3-2 extra-innings win over host Manchester on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Foresters' season-opener.

The Foresters and Spartans played to a 1-1 tie in the second game that ended due to darkness.

Furrow threw scoreless ball for five innings, gave up two runs in the sixth inning and then held on for two more scoreless frames to get the win.

Palmer leads HU to CL Tourney upset of IWU

Miranda Palmer banged in 26 points as the Huntington University women's basketball team upset third-seeded host Indiana Wesleyan University, 79-59, in opening round action of the Crossroads League Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The win sends sixth-seeded HU, 15-15, into the semifinals Friday night against second-seeded University of Saint Francis, at Hutzell Athletic Center.

Bruce has Senior Night to remember in big Viking hoop win

Senior Chazz Bruce gave the Senior Night crowd something to cheer about as he led the Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team past visiting Northfield, 58-28, on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Bruce, a 6-5 center, not only pumped in a season-best 20 points on 8 of 10 field goal shooting from the floor and 4 of 4 from the line, but he also grabbed seven rebounds and had three blocked shots as the Vikings improved to 17-6 on the season.

Huntington North boy bowlers fourth, girls eighth at state meet

The Huntington North High School boys' bowling team placed fourth and the Huntington North girls' team placed eighth at the state meet at Pro Bowl West in Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The boys' team, which won conference, sectional, regional and semi-state titles prior to appearing at state, fell in the roll-off.

The team was composed of Matthew Elmore, Alex Mettler, Avery Thurston, Jordan Gray, Zach Grover, Zach Cochran and Bryan Harrell.

Gerke win highlights inaugural Crossroads League Invite effort for HU trackmen

A win by Brooks Gerke in the heptathlon highlighted a trip to the inaugural Crossroads League Invitational by the Huntington University men’s track and field team on Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The Foresters finished eighth at the meet with 29 points, with 10 of those being scored by Gerke in the heptathlon. The senior tallied 4,515 points in the event, slotting him 11th nationally and likely earning him a trip to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Forester trackwomen sixth at Crossroads League Invite

With a win in triple jump, Christiana Hicks helped the Huntington University women’s track and field team place sixth at the inaugural Crossroads League Invitational, held Friday, Feb.17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Hicks, a senior, captured gold in triple jump with a leap of 11.25 meters. Teammate Michelle Kelsey also earned points in the event, bounding 9.47 meters to claim sixth.
