The Huntington North High School Lady Vikings basketball team will start their season with inter-squad games on Nov. 2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at their home gym. HU spikers another notch on IWU shutout belt

The Huntington University volleyball team was another shutout victim of 15th-ranked host Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 29, falling 0-3.

The Wildcats made HU their 19th shutout victim of the season by scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-21.

HU drops to 13-18 overall, 7-11 in crossroads League action, while IWU improved to 30-2 overall, 17-0 in the league.

Audrey Mallers paced the HU offense with 10 kills. Josie Beaver and Paige Eakright chipped in seven kills apiece.

Emily Hubby added 20 assists.

Freshman Bradey Gerke's goal with just over three minutes remaining in the second overtime gave the Huntington University men's soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting Goshen College on Saturday, Oct. 29, in quarterfinal action of the Crossroads League Tournament.

The Foresters, 8-9-1, generated five shots in the final OT session before Gerke found the back of the net at the 3:18 mark to send HU to semifinal action next Saturday against the winner of Bethel and Taylor.

HU volleyball squad falls in four to Grace

The Huntington University volleyball team came up short in four tough sets to visiting Grace College on Friday night, Oct. 28.

The Foresters, 13-17, dropped the match 24-26, 25-23, 21-25, 11-25.

The Foresters held a 21-15 advantage in the first set before the wheels came off and Grace closed with an 11-3 run to win. After HU gritted out the second set win, Grace did the same in the third set before having an easy time in the fourth.

The season ended very quietly for the Huntington North High School football team with a 24-0 loss to visiting Kokomo on Friday night, Oct. 28, at the Huntington North Football Sectional.

Finishing the season at 2-8, the Vikings gave up 374 yards rushing to the Wildkats on defense and shot themselves in the foot with four turnovers on offense, three interceptions and a fumble.

The Wildkats, 7-2, put up a touchdown in the first quarter and added 10 more points in the second frame to take a 17-0 lead into halftime. They scored their final seven points in the fourth quarter.

Marian zips past HU spikers

The Huntington University volleyball team lost in straight sets, 0-3, to host Marian University on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

After losing the first set, 17-25, the Foresters pushed hard in the second before succumbing, 25-27. Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad then suffered a 19-25 setback in the third set to lose the match.

Huntington University ‘Teal Out’ is a fund-raiser for Eakright

The Huntington University volleyball team is sponsoring a “Teal-Out” game against Grace College on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at the HU Platt Arena.

The game will raise funds for one of the volleyball players, Paige Eakright, of Fort Wayne, who has cancer. She will begin treatment after the volleyball season has concluded.

Teal-Out shirts will be sold at the door to raise awareness and support Eakright’s fight.

The game is sponsored by Beacon Credit Union of Huntington and Warsaw.

HU distaff harriers 15th at GL Challenge

The Huntington University women’s cross country team placed 15th at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, held Saturday, Oct. 22, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Aspen Dirr finished in 25th place to lead the Foresters with a time of 19:05.61. Christine Sparks came in next at 20:03.47 to finish 74th.

Other Huntington finishers included Marie Ditzler, 21:03.09; Kelsey Graber, 21:47.65; Amanda Fielding, 21:53.60; Cassidy Johnson, 22:03.84; and Rachael Smelser, 22:23.64.

HU men 20th at NAIA Grat Lakes XC Challenge

The Huntington University men’s cross country team came in 20th at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, held Saturday, Oct. 22, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Zach McIntyre was the Foresters’ top finisher, coming in 93rd with a time of 27:25.28. Kevin Moser, 28:19.29, and Austin Wiley, 28:29.47, came in 115th and 119th, respectively.

Other Huntington finishers included Codi Wiersema, 28:33.07; Nick Childs, 28:35.83; C.J. Robertson, 28:51.07; and Ben Rigel, 28:56.74.

KIM League basketball registration under way at Parkview YMCA

The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA is accepting registrations for its fall/winter KIM League basketball program.

Registration for the fifth grade league is closing soon, as practices are scheduled to begin on Oct. 24. Registration for pre-K/kindergarten through third and fourth grade continues through Nov. 7. The middle school league (sixth through eighth grade) begins in January.

HU soccerwomen again play to scoreless tie

The Huntington University women’s soccer team played to its third double-overtime tie in four games, deadlocking with Taylor University in a scoreless affair on Saturday, Oct. 22, at King Stadium.

Both goalkeepers, the Foresters’ Paige Coolman and the Trojans’ Lauren Engelkes, neutralized the opposing offense. Coolman recorded eight saves and Engelkes did the same to keep the game knotted up at zero by the final whistle.

Of Huntington’s eight shots on goal, senior Olivia Knispel, sophomore Matéa Knispel and sophomore Tessy Geiss each provided two.

Taylor overpowers HU soccermen

Host Taylor University overpowered the Huntington University men’s soccer team, handing the Foresters a 4-1 loss on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Trojans tallied two goals in the first half while shutting out the Foresters to enjoy a 2-0 lead at halftime. Huntington got on the board at the 50:22 mark in the second stanza on a goal by Hayden Suter, but Taylor countered with two scores later in the period to ice the game.
