HU netwomen blow out Anderson

The Huntington University women's tennis team had blowout wins in eight of the nine matches played en route to a 9-0 whitewashing of visiting Anderson University on Monday, Sept. 26.

Meg Dolde at fourth singles pitched a 6-0, 6-0 double blanking at Mandy Meserve to highlight the Foresters' big day, which pushed their record to 6-2 on the season. The other Forester singles players weren't far behind, losing just one game apiece on the afternoon.

Tillett scores, Trice saves as Lady Vikes top Norwell

Hannah Tillett scored two more goals and Brooke Trice notched her eighth shutout of the season as the Huntington North High School girls' varsity soccer team zipped past visiting Norwell, 5-0, on Monday, Sept. 26.

Taylor Conley, Karmen Koch and Amaya Sunderman each had a goal apiece for the Lady Vikings, 13-1-1 on the season.

The Lady Vikings went up 3-0 in the first half and came up with two more goals in the second frame.

Tillett, who now has 28 goals on the season, also posted two more assists to her resume, and Sydney Kyle also had an assist.

Lady Vikes hold clinic

Players from the Huntington County Soccer League and Roanoke Youth Sports Soccer League participate at a soccer skills clinic conducted by the Huntington North High School girls’ soccer team at the school on Tuesday evening, Sept. 20. The clinic was free and attended by over 30 children who participated in several stations with the team’s players.

No. 23 IWU sweeps HU volleyball team

The Huntington University volleyball team suffered its third shutout of the season when it lost to 23-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Platt Arena.

The Wildcats won 25-9, 25-13, 25-20 to drop HU to 8-8 overall, 4-5 in Crossroads League play.

Tailor Schultheis led the HU offense with five kills. Kate Cobb led the defensive efforts with 17 digs.

HU soccerwomen lose lead, game

The Huntington University women's soccer team saw a late 2-0 lead disappear and were beaten 3-2 by visiting Goshen College on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The Foresters, 4-4-1 overall and 0-1 in Crossroads League play, were up by the pair of goals with 15 minutes to go, but Goshen tallied three times in a four-minute span to send HU to defeat.

Audra Klopfenstein tallied HU's first goal in the 10th minute when she put in a rebound of a Matea Knispel shot. Oliva Knispel used a pass from her sister to make the score 2-0 in the 66th minute.

Esteban's runner-up finish carries HU golfers to third at USF invite

Luis Esteban placed second individually to pace the Huntington University men's golf team to a third place finish among 11 teams at the Saint Francis Cougar Fall Invitational this past weekend.

Esteban, a freshman from Spain, fired a four-under par 140 to earn runner-up and all-tournament honors and lead HU ot a team score of 607.

Taylor won the tournamant with a 579, followed by Saint Francis with a 588.

Cale Carr was the number two scorer for HU with a tally of 150. Nate Mynatt was next at 154 and Zak Cummings fired a 163.

HU netwomen hail senior day with big win

The Huntington University women's tennis team celebrated senior day in a big way with an 8-1 win over visiting Bethel College on Saturday, Sept. 24.

HU seniors Constance Golz, Morgan Bemisderfer and Celine Rongos each had a hand in two wins for the Foresters, 5-2, and the remaining senior, Kerrie Ecker had a hand in one win.

Golz defeated Taylor Freedline, 6-3, 6-0, at first singles; Bemisderfer topped Caroline Boger, 6-2, 6-2, at second singles and Rongos triumphed over Abbey VanDiver, 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.

Forester netmen have big high, low in doubleheader split

The Huntington University men's tennis team experienced a big high then a big low as it split a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 24, sweeping Bethel, 9-0, but losing to Aquinas College, 1-8, at Klopfenstein Courts.

A double 6-0 whitewashing by No. 3 singles player Dawid Baranowski over Jose Morales highlighted the foresters' day against Bethel.

Forester soccermen pick off No. 16 IWU

The Huntington University men's soccer team picked off 16th-ranked host Indiana Wesleyan University, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Hayden Suter logged the game's only goal midway through the second half off a pass from Miguel de Sousa, and goalie Brad Buzzard made the score stand up as HU improved to 3-5-1 on the season.

Buzzard stopped all nine IWU shots in the contest.

The goal was Suter's first game-winner of his career.

Lady Vike harriers ninth at New Haven Classic

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity cross country team finished ninth out of 18 teams at the New Haven Classic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Led by junior Chloe Scheiber's 22 place finish among team scorers, the Lady Vikings tallied 236 points to wind up in the top half of the teams competing. Carroll won the meet with 44 points, followed by Homestead with 58 points and Northridge with 120.

Cobblestone too much for Lady Vike golfers at regional

Cobblestone Golf Course proved way too much for the Huntington North High School girls' varsity golf team on Saturday, Sept. 24, as it finished last among 18 teams at the East Noble Golf Regional.

The Lady Vikings finished with a total of 408, 11 shots behind 17th place Southwood and 100 strokes off the winning score of 308 posted by Homestead.

Sophomore Laura Ham led the Lady Vikes with a 95 for the 18 holes of competition. Fellow sophomore Amara Eckert with a 99 was the only other North golfer to finish below triple digits.

HU spikers fall to Grace in five-set thriller

The Huntington University volleyball team got edged by host Grace College, 2-3, in a five-set thriller on Friday, Sept. 23.

After coming up short in the opening set, 22-25, the Foresters evened things with a hard-fought 29-27 victory in the second. The Lancers went back up with a 25-19 triumph in the third, but Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad deadlocked things once more with a 25-15 win in the fourth. It was Grace who’d have the final cheer, though, posting a 15-9 victory in the fifth.

HU netmen easily drop Goshen

The Huntington University men’s tennis team defeated visiting Goshen College with ease, 8-1, on Thursday, Sept. 22.

A loss at third singles was the lone blemish in an otherwise dominant match for the Foresters, who climb to 3-4, 3-2 in the Crossroads League.
