Lady Vike spikers clean up South Side

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team cleaned up Fort Wayne South Side in three games on Tuesday, Aug. 23, winning 25-9, 25-5, 25-8.

Kalee Platt had nine kills and five aces on the evening. Kaitlyn Stephan added 15 assists to the cause as the Lady Vikings improved to 5-2 on the season.

Brooke Richison also had five assists for HNHS, Ariene Butler had 13 digs.

The Lady Vikes' junior varsity was a 2-0 winner over South Side, triumphing 25-18, 25-7.

Corynn Barton had five aces and Lydia Riggers had eight assists to lead HNHS.

Junior Hannah Tillett rammed in four goals and Karmen Koch added two as the Huntington North High School girls' varsity soccer team blasted visiting Mississinewa, 10-0, on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Lady Viking goalie Brooke Trice only had to make one save on the day to register her first shutout of the season for HNHS, now 3-0.

Tillett added an assist to her day's production and Koch, also a junior, added three assists to her goal total as HNHS scored 10 goals for the second straight game.

Viking netboys blitz Bluffton

The Huntington North High School varsity boys' tennis blitzed visiting Bluffton, 5-0, on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Senior Nick May led the way to the Vikings' third win in four outings, whitewashing Mitchell Kuhlenbeck at first singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Auden Eckert at second singles took a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Evan Baumgartner, and at third singles sophomore Adam Zahn scrambled back from a 4-6 loss in the opening set to win the next two, 7-5, 7-6.

Bellmont stops Lady Vike golfers

Visiting Bellmont sent the Huntington North High School girls' varsity golf team under the .500 mark by beating the Lady Vikings, 172-194, on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Ashley Hall fired a 44 and Amara Eckert recorded a 45 to lead HNHS, 2-3 on the season. Laura Ham had a 52 and Jaclyn Boyd fired a 53.

Alysa Gray was non-scorer with a 54.

Danielle Gonser fired a career-best 48 to lead the junior varsity to a score of 203. Bellmont did not field a full squad.

Sarah Malone had a 49 for the Lady Vike JV, Leah Kitchen added a 50 and McKenzie Haneline had a 56.

Viking soccerboys blank Mississinewa

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity soccer team turned a 1-0 halftime advantage into a 4-0 laugher by game's end to defeat host Mississinewa on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The Vikings got goals from four different players and shutout goalkeeping from Sam Poling and Aidan Hosler to improve to 3-0-1 on the season.

Senior Felix Benkel tallied a goal and an assist to pace HNHS, which also got goals from junior Jacob Foster, sophomore Eric Allred and freshman Peyton Miller.

Carson Bolinger, Caleb Smith and Andrew Kaylor racked up assists.

Lady Vikes rout New Haven behind trio

Autumn Anderson, Karmen Koch and Hannah Tillett each scored a pair of goals as the Huntington North High School girls' varsity soccer team routed visiting New Haven, 10-1, on Monday, Aug. 22.

The Lady Vikes, 2-0, did all their scoring in the opening frame. Adding in the remaining HNHS goals were junior Emily Johnson, sophomore Amaya Sunderman and freshmen Bella Bercik and Ashlynn Foster.

Sydney Kyle led the playmakers with a pair of assists. Courtney Christle and Megan Thomas each had one assist.

Brooke Trice had the win in goal for HNHS.

Benkel scores four as Viking booters batter New Haven

Senior Felix Benkel scored four goals and the Huntington North High School boys' soccer team battered host New Haven, 9-2, on Monday, Aug. 22.

The Vikings, 2-0-1, blitzed New Haven with seven second half goals to break a 2-2 halftime tie.

Other Vikings finding the back of the net included juniors Caleb Smith and Andrew Kaylor, sophomore Eric Allred and freshmen Tyler Christle and Peyton Miller.

Smith and Kaylor also had an assist apiece for HNHS. Aidan Hinesley had three assists to lead the way, and Kasey Konz, Carl Danarp and Carson Bolinger also had assists.

Homestead too powerful for HNHS golfgirls

Visiting Homestead was just two powerful for the Huntington North High School girls varsity golf team and defeated the Lady Vikings, 158-189 on Monday, Aug. 22.

Ashley Hall carded a 44 to lead HNHS, 2-2 on the season. Laura Ham scored a 47, Jaclyn Boyd fired a 48 and Amara Eckert had a 50.

Sarah Malone was non-scorer with a 51.

The HNHS junior varsity suffered its first defeat of the season falling to Homestead 185-210.

Vikings 9th at Huntington North Cross County Invitational

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity cross country team finished ninth out of 18 teams at its own invitational, held Saturday, Aug. 20, on the Huntington University Cross County Course.

The Vikings were paced by sophomore Brock Spahr, who captured 20th in 17:30.2. Junior JJ Whicker posted a time of 18:29.7 to claim 50th while sophomore Drew Davis clocked in at 18:41.1, good for 55th. Junior Nolan Young and senior Alex Wiedenhoeft finished 63rd and 64th, in 18:59.6 and 19:00.5, respectively, to cap Huntington North’s score at 252.

Lady Vike cross country squad 9th at own invite

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity cross country team placed ninth out of 14 teams at its own invitational, held Saturday, Aug. 20, on the Huntington University Cross County Course.

Junior Chloe Scheiber led the Lady Vikings, crossing the finish line in 21:09.3 for 23rd place. Sophomore Kyler Hoopingarner claimed 35th, clocking in at 21:44.0. Sophomore Alena Miller took 46th, stepping over the end stripe in 22:11.7. With a time of 22:47.0, senior Jenna Henline attained 53rd while senior Aliyah Kelsey notched 59th in 23:11.9 to cap the team’s score at 216.

Viking soccer team dispatches Manchester for first win

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity soccer team dispatched visiting Manchester, 3-0, on Saturday, Aug. 20, to pick up its first win of the season.

The Vikings, 1-0-1, did all of their scoring in the first half. Senior Felix Benkel, junior Andrew Kaylor and freshman Peyton Miller each found the back of the net.

Junior Caleb Smith aided the team’s offensive effort with two assists.

Junior Sam Poling recorded four saves in goal to post his first shutout of the season.

Lady Vike spikers 2-2 at LaPorte Invitational

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team went 2-2 at the LaPorte Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The Lady Vikings, 4-2, kicked off the invite with 2-0 sweeps of Merrillville and Highland before suffering an 0-2 defeat to LaPorte and a 1-2 setback versus New Prairie.

Huntington North defeated Merrillville by scores of 25-9 and 25-21.

Senior Allyson Mettler and junior Kalee Platt led the Lady Viking offense, producing five kills apiece. Junior Kaitlyn Stephan swatted three aces and also dished out eight assists.

HU goes 3-0 as host of own V-ball invite

The Huntington University volleyball team kicked off its season with 3-0 showing at the Forester Invitational, which it hosted on Friday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 20.

The Foresters, 3-0, swept William Penn University on Friday, 3-0, before outlasting Roosevelt University, 3-2, and blanking Robert Morris University, 3-0, on Saturday.

Huntington dispatched William Penn by scores of 25-15, 25-8, 25-18.
