The Crestview Middle School boys’ eighth-grade basketball team fell to McCulloch, 49-33, on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Aidan Hosler paced the Cougars, 8-9, with 11 points. Deven Newcomb chipped in eight points.
Crestview’s seventh-grade squad also lost, 51-38.
Mitch Gerber and Sam Thompson tallied 12 points apiece for the Cougars, 12-4.

It was another very close loss for the Huntington North High School gymnastics team as it fell to visiting East Noble, 99.100-98.825, on Thursday, Jan. 21, despite three wins from Carly Snyder.
Snyder was top shelf on the vault and floor exercise and won the all-around but East Noble still had just enough to pin the Lady Vikes with their third loss in three dual meets this season. Snyder took the vault with a score of 8.750 and the floor with a score of 8.875 on the way to an all-around score of 34.275.

The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team lost a close meet to visiting Carroll, 102.500-101.050, on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Carly Snyder logged three wins to lead the Lady Vikings. The team’s senior standout posted scores of 9.000 on vault, 9.250 on balance beam and 9.100 in the floor exercise to achieve her victories. She also took fourth place on the uneven parallel bars, giving her an all-around tally of 34.950, good for runner-up honors.

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team outlasted host Northrop in overtime, 68-64, on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
The Vikings trailed the entire game, save for the final minute of regulation, when senior Hannah Stoffel made a pair of clutch free throws to give her squad a 56-55 advantage. Northrop had a gutsy performer of its own, though, in Niomi Dube, who knotted the game to force overtime.

The Huntington University women’s basketball team got edged by host Spring Arbor University, 58-54, on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Trailing by five points, 53-48, with 6:05 left in the game, Amelia Recker and Allyson Trout put the Foresters in front. A score in the paint by Recker preceded back-to-back buckets by Trout in the lane, the second of which was set up by a Recker steal. The duo’s handiwork gave Huntington a slim 54-53 advantage with 2:01 remaining.

Zane Cozad
Senior Zane Cozad racked up a pair of individual wins and swam a leg on a winning relay team but the Huntington North High School boys' swim team was beaten, 109-63, by host Norwell on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Cozad won the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:02.87, and the 500-yard freestyle, in 5:28.78, for the Vikings, 6-8 on the season. He also swam the anchor leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team, which was also made up of Jacob Koons, Nathan Park and Gunnar Wibel, and touched home in 4:00.42.

A victory in the final event of the meet -- the 400-yard freestyle relay -- was the highlight of the night for the Huntington North High School girls' swim team in a 122-53 loss to host Norwell on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
The Lady Vikings' foursome of Emma Gordon, Alivia Eiting, Kaitlin Biehl and Macy Lange touched the wall in 4:29.64 for the team's only win of the meet.

Daniel Woll scored 23 points, including the 1,000th point of his career, to lead the Huntington University men's basketball team to a 90-60 beatdown of visiting Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Woll, a 6-7 junior, knocked down 10 of 14 shots from the field and both of his free throws to help the Foresters climb back over the .500 mark at 11-10 overall and 5-4 in the Crossroads League. Woll also led all rebounders with 11 boards and added six assists and two steals for good measure.

With Carly Snyder leading the way, the Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team captured second place at the Viking Invite, hosted by Valparaiso on Saturday, Jan. 16.
Snyder, a senior, took third in the all around and on balance beam, helping the Lady Vikings tally 99.7 points in the eight-team field.
Snyder achieved a mark of 9.2 on beam en route to posting an all around score of 34.750. She also placed seventh in both the floor exercise and on vault, totaling a 9.125 in the former event and an 8.6 in the latter, which tied her with Valparaiso’s Allie Gatz.

Zane Cozad and Cody Barton each posted a pair of top-five finishes for the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity swim team at the Northeast 8 Conference meet, held Saturday, Jan. 16, at Norwell.
Cozad and Barton, a senior and junior, respectively, both logged a second and third-place finish for the Vikings, who finished fifth at the six-team meet. For their efforts, the two were named to the all-conference first team.

Emma Gordon and Macy Lange each swam to fourth and fifth-place finishes for the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity swim team at the Northeast 8 Conference meet, held Saturday, Jan. 16, at Norwell.
The two were the only swimmers to achieve podium finishes for the Lady Vikings, who placed fifth out of six teams at the meet. Gordon, a senior, and Lange, a freshman, both garnered honorable mentions from the conference for their performances.

The Huntington North High School boys’ freshmen basketball team picked up three wins while suffering one loss in games played from Jan. 9 to 14.
The Vikings, 9-1 on the season, kicked off the stretch with a 51-35 victory over visiting East Noble on Jan. 9.
Sawyer Stoltz tallied 21 points for Huntington North and collected five rebounds and as many steals. Hank Pulver chipped in 14 points to the Vikings’ cause while Trey Williams added 10 points and supplied four assists.
Huntington North next faced visiting Warsaw on Jan. 11 and narrowly lost, 50-47.

Christina Hicks posted a pair of top finishes for the Huntington University women’s track and field team at Wabash College’s Robert H. Johnson Little Giant Invitational, held Saturday, Jan. 16.
Hicks led a Forester contingent that swept the 200-meter dash. The speedster claimed the top spot in :26.37, breaking the school record. Freshman Mariah Harter took second with a clocking of :27.15 while sophomore Samantha McCoy earned third, stopping the timer in :28.15.
Hicks, a junior, captured her other gold in triple jump, leaping 10.78 meters.

The Huntington University men’s track and field team produced two top-five finishes at Wabash College’s Robert H. Johnson Little Giant Invitational, held Saturday, Jan. 16.
The 1,600-meter relay quartet of Chris Reed, CJ Robertson, Jonathan VanDuyne and Michael Bowman claimed third in 3:43.38.
Reed, a sophomore, also took fifth in the 200-meter dash, running a personal best :23.86.
