Woll goes for 30 in Foresters' opening-night win

Behind 30 points from Daniel Woll, the Huntington University men’s basketball team opened its season with an 84-70 victory over visiting Saint Xavier University on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Woll, a junior, sank 12 of his 16 field goal attempts to lead all scorers in a game in which the Foresters never trailed. The Columbia City product dropped in six points during a 19-4 run that saw Coach Ty Platt’s squad go from leading by just a single tally, 21-20, to leading by double digits, 40-24, with 2:54 remaining in the first half.

HU spikers rally back from 2 sets down to win

The Huntington University volleyball team came back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat host Indiana University Kokomo, 3-2, on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The Cougars outlasted the Foresters in the opening set, 26-24, then dispatched them in the second, 25-16, to put their backs against the wall. Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad proved up to the challenge, however, canceling the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third set. Huntington repeated the feat in the fourth frame, winning 25-20 once again, and capped off the comeback with a 15-13 decision in the final set.

HU women rally back twice to win opener

The Huntington University women's basketball team twice erased five-point deficits late to win its season-opener against host Holy Cross in overtime, 89-87.

Junior Miranda Palmer, who had a game-high 30 points, hit a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining to give HU the win after it trailed by five pints earlier in the overtime.

HU frosh Knispel earns all-conference soccer honor

MaTéa Knispel, a freshman on the Huntington University women’s soccer team, has been named to the Crossroads League women’s soccer all-conference team.

Knispel is one of three freshmen to be named all-conference.

The Fort Wayne native wasted little time splashing onto the scene this season. She started all 18 games and scored five goals for the Foresters, which included two game-winners. She also dished out a team-best seven assists, which ranks her sixth among her league peers.

HU spikers spoil IU-SB senior night

The Huntington University volleyball team played spoiler to IU-South Bend's senior night by defeating the host Titans, 3-1, on Monday, Nov. 2.

The Foresters, winning for the fifth time in their last six outings, improved to 11-14 overall with the 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17 win.

Josie Beaver and Audrey Mallers led HU offensively with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while Sarah Dorris and Kelsey Kruse each posted seven. Suzanne Grimm handled the bulk of the setting chores with 24 assists.

Kate Cobb led the Foresters on defense with 22 digs, Grimm added 13.

HU men bowlers ninth at Boilermaker Classic

The Huntington University men’s bowling team placed ninth out of 16 teams at the Boilermaker Classic at Aulby’s Arrowhead Bowl, held Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25.

Seth Walker, Derek Beckler, Daniel Miller, Joe Miller, Colin Madden, David Miller and Adam Harris-Shoemaker felled 7,225 pins for the Foresters. The squad enjoyed eighth place after Saturday’s five team games (902-874-870-908-873) for a total of 4,427.

Huntington, however, struggled to get on track in Baker play, rolling four-game sets of 682-743-737-636 for its tournament total.

HU volleyball comeback falls short against IWU

A comeback attempt by the Huntington University volleyball team against visiting Indiana Wesleyan University fell short, 1-3, on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Wildcats defeated the Foresters in the first two sets, 25-15, 25-13, but the hosts rebounded in the third frame, 25-23. Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad gave the visitors another spirited bout in the fourth set, but fell just shy of the win, 23-25.

HU spikers sweep past Grace

The Huntington University volleyball team notched its third sweep in four matches with a 3-0 win over host Grace College on Friday, Oct. 30.

The Foresters, 8-9 in the Crossroads League, 10-13 overall, logged wins of 25-17, 26-24, 25-14.

Junior Audrey Mallers and sophomore Josie Beaver contributed 10 kills apiece to Huntington’s offensive effort, which junior Suzanne Grimm backed with 32 assists.

The Forester defense got 21 digs from sophomore Kate Cobb and 10 from both Mallers and Grimm.

Grace squeaks past HU booters in CL tourney

The season came to an end for the Huntington University men’s soccer team with a 1-0 loss to host Grace College in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The second-seeded Lancers scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 38:58 mark in the first half. Colin Cape registered the goal for Grace, 6-2-1 in league play, 12-5-1 overall.

Season comes to swift end for HU soccerwomen

The season came to a swift end for the Huntington University women’s soccer team with a 5-0 defeat to host Spring Arbor University in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The top-seeded Cougars overwhelmed the eighth-seeded Foresters, pelting them with 31 shots, 14 of which were on goal. The hosts scored twice in the first half and three more times in the second to make for the uneven final score.
