Seven titles earn HNHS wrestlers second at own Close Memorial Tournament

The Huntington North High School wrestling team earned seven championships to finish second in its own Weston Close Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The Vikings piled up 269 points to finish just 10 behind Noblesville in the team championship race. Logansport finished third with 229 points, Snider was fourth with 208, Woodlan was fifth with 200 and West Noble was sixth among the 10 teams competing with 170 points.

HU men dig hole too deep in first half in loss to Aquinas

The Huntington University men's basketball team couldn't quite dig itself out a first half hole and lost to host Aquinas College, 72-69 on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

The Foresters, now 12-3, shot themselves in the foot with an 11 of 35, 31.4 percent shooting effort in the first half, trailing 42-25 at the break. They got down by 25 about midway through the second half at 57-32, and couldn't quite climb back up the mountain, despite Bobby Jolliff notching 11 of the Foresters' next 15 points to make a game of it.

Miller's first-half rampage helps HU women win Purdue-Calumet Classic

Sarah Miller scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to lead the Huntington University women's basketball team past Berea College, 67-55, to claim the championship of the Purdue University-Calumet Classic on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 29.

Miller scored 11 of the Foresters' first 15 of the game as HU jumped out to a 39-30 halftime advantage on the way to their ninth win in 14 games this season.

Brita Kuiper added 16 points for the contest, Claire Creasy came off the bench with nine points and Kelsey Green and Lauren Meese each added eight.

Huntington University forward Kelsey Green scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Foresters to an 80-71 win over host Purdue Calumet on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Green scored 15 points in the first half to lead HU to a 40-29 lead at halftime. Sarah Miller matched that total with 15 of her game-high 27 points in the second half to push HU to an 8-5 mark on the season.

Lady Vikes lose shootout to Hamilton Heights in classic finale

The Huntington North High School girls' basketball team lost an offensive shootout to visiting Hamilton Heights, 70-66, in the championship game of the Lady Vikings Holiday Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Seniors Kayla Schenkel and Liesl Davenport combined for 47 points and the Lady Vikes connected on 25 of 48 shots from the field for 52.1 percent, but it wasn't enough as Jessica Carr scored 32 points and the Lady Huskies hit 25 of 42 from the field for a sizzling 59.5 percent.

Lady Vikes trounce Arsenal, move to classic championship tonight, Tuesday

With a 55-38 win Monday night, Dec. 27,  against Indianapolis Arsenal,  the Huntington North girls' basketball team advances to the championship round of the Lady Vikings Holiday Classic, sponsored by TCU, tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Senior center Kayla Schenkel led the 5-5 Lady Vikings with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior forward Liesl Davenport led all scorers with 15 points. She also chipped in five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Junior guard Kaytlyn Kreider pitched in nine points.
