Riverview girls' hoop teams split with Bluffton

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team fell to host Bluffton 33-23 on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Maddi Kennedy had eight points and Tasha Grover scored five for the Raiders, now 1-2.

Hannah Stoffel led Riverview's seventh grade girls' basketball team to a 23-16 win over Bluffton.

Stoffel scored 13 points to lead the Raiders, 2-1.

Both Riverview teams will play Salamonie on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m.

 

Riverview boys' basketball teams fall to Bluffton

Bluffton Middle School proved to be too much for the Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team, as the Raiders lost 42-29 on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Derek Snyder had nine points to lead Riverview, 1-1, and Dustin Campbell followed with six.

Riverview's seventh grade boys' basketball team also fell to Bluffton, 44-22.

Anthony Capozza led Riverview, 1-1, with nine points. Keenan McKinzie chalked up eight.

Both boys' teams will travel to Lakeview Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 5 p.m.

 

Riverview boys' hoop teams take pair from Salamonie

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team defeated Salamonie School 44-33 on Monday, Nov. 22.

Derek Snyder led the effort for the Raiders with 13 points. Austin Tester and Chase Asher each contributed six.

Walker Spahr led Salamonie with 12 points. Andrew Nelson added seven and Quaid Heyde had five.

On the seventh grade side of things, Riverview beat Salamonie 36-21.

Kennan McKinzie had nine points to lead Riverview. Kory Goodrich scored eight and Thomas Parker had seven.

Grover leads Riverview eighth grade girls past Oak Hill

Natasha Grover scored 12 points to give the Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team a 31-25 victory over host Oak Hill Middle School on Monday, Nov. 22.

Maddi Kennedy supported Grover with nine points as the Cougars improved to 1-1 on the season.

In seventh grade action, Riverview fell to Oak Hill 33-23.
Sarah Fryman scored 10 Cougar points, and Hannah Stoffel added eight. The seventh- graders are now 1-1 on the season.

Both teams will face Bluffton on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m.

 

Four Foresters hit double digits as HU women stop Marian in MCC opener

Four Foresters hit double digits as the Huntington University women's basketball team capitalized on host Marian University's 21 personal fouls to beat Marian 69-60 for HU's first Mid-Central Conference win of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Huntington, 6-1 overall, totaled 27 points on 31 attempts from the free-throw line to overcome Marian's leadership of points from the field.

Marian, 4-3 overall, hit 23 of 61 field goal attempts, including 5 of 20 threes, topping Huntington's 19 of 53 field goals and 4 of 13 from behind the arc.

Zawadzki nets 30 as Foresters beat Marian in MCC opener

Kellen Zawadzki knocked down 30 points, including 19 of the Foresters' first 29 points, as the Huntington University men's basketball team opened Mid-Central Conference play with a win over visiting Marian University, 81-73, on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Zawadzki, who hit 10 of 17 from the field, also grabbed eight rebounds for Huntington, 8-1. He was supported by Tyler Shively, who scored 14, and Shane Merryman, who had 11.

Caleb Kennedy also had eight boards for HU.

Schenkel hot but Lady Vikings not in hoop loss to Snider

Kayla Schenkel's career-high 22 points wasn't nearly enough for the Huntington North High School girls' basketball team as it lost to visiting Fort Wayne Snider, 68-51, on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Schenkel, a senior, hit 10 of 12 shots from the field, but the rest of the Lady Vikes combined for just 12 out of 41 shooting - including 0 for 11 from 3-point range - as they dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Liesl Davenport scored 12 points in support of Schenkel and also had a team high seven rebounds.

Salamonie girls split with Blackford

The Salamonie School eighth grade girls' basketball team fell to Blackford Middle School 35-15 on Monday, Nov. 22.

Katie Littleford led Salamonie with five points. Alexis Hardin and Danielle Kern each had four.

The eighth-graders dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Salamonie's seventh grade girls' basketball team earned its first win of the season, beating Blackford 20-16.

Madi Canady carried the Rebels with 16 points as the seventh-graders improved to 1-2.

Both teams will face visiting McCulloch Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m.

 

Crestview girls' hoop teams fall to Norwell

The Crestview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team fell to Norwell Middle School 30-15 on Monday, Nov. 22.

Monica Minton led the Cougars with five points. Rachel Anderson added four.

The Crestview seventh grade girls' basketball team suffered its first loss of the season as it was ousted by Norwell 31-9.

Ellie Lawson had four points for Crestview.

Crestview dropped to 3-1 on the season, and both teams will face McCulloch Middle School on Monday, Nov. 29.

 

HNHS bowling boys humble Bellmont, 19-2

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity bowling team remained undefeated after a convincing 19-2 win over Bellmont High School at Oak Lanes in Huntington on Saturday, Nov. 20.

EJ Tackett rolled a 279 to lead the Vikings, 2-0, to dismantle Bellmont 1,110-891. Adam Fruit followed with a 237, Tyler Carroll had a 232, Tyler Krepp rolled a 195 and Connor Brown had a 167.

HNHS girl bowlers hammer South Adams, 20-0

Host South Adams High School was shut down by the Huntington North High School girls' varsity bowling team, 20-0, at Oak Lanes in Huntington on Saturday, Nov. 20.

In round one, the Lady Vikings beat South Adams 849-495. Ayla Yeiter had a 202, Alyssa Prickett scored a 169, Alex Rittenhouse rolled a 168 and Mikey Harrison and Elni Newsome each had games of 155.

Huntington North also dominated the second game, 840-449. Prickett was the high scorer for the Lady Vikes,with a 193. Rittenhouse had a 177, Yeiter a 173, Harrisona 164 and Liz Conley a 133.

Rupright, turnovers plaque HNHS girls in loss to Norwell

Jessica Rupright hit 10 of 11 shots from the field for host Norwell and the Huntington North High School girls' basketball team was plagued with turnovers in a 61-42 loss to the Lady Knights on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Rupright wound up with 23 points and the Lady Vikes gave up 29 points on 20 turnovers to lose their first game in three outings so far this season.

Thanks to 15 Rupright points, Norwell held a 22-15 margin after one period of play and outscored the Lady Vikes 21-7 in the second quarter for a 43-22 margin at halftime.

The A&I Products team was the National League champion in the Huntington Parks and Recreation Department's co-ed fall softball league, which wrapped up the regular season with a double elimination tournament.
