HNHS girls' basketball team rallies from 10 down to defeat Carroll

Faced with a 10-point deficit in the second quarter, the Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team was able to flex its muscle and push back to wind up defeating visiting Carroll High School 48-40 on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Kayla Schenkel carried the Lady Vikings, 2-0, with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Liesl Davenport backed up Schenkel with 11 points, and supported defensively with two steals.

Eagles middle school team loses to Indy

The Indianapolis Homeschool Wildcats proved to be too much for the Huntington Eagles middle-school-age basketball team, as the Wildcats beat the Eagles 42-29 on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Ian Kissell had 11 points for Huntington, 0-4, and Bruce Hitzfield added eight.

The Eagles' elementary-school-age basketball team fared better against Indianapolis, defeating the Wildcats 40-28.

Joel Neff led the Eagles, 3-0, with 18 points. Spencer Ballinger and Tyce Frank each scored 10.

 

Lady Eagles basketball team swamps Kings Academy, 58-27

The Huntington Lady Eagles varsity homeschool basketball team smashed the King's Academy Lady Knights 58-27 at the Lakeview Christian School in Marion on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Huntington outscored the Lady Knights in each quarter, taking a commanding 31-11 lead at halftime.

Catherine Weaver led all scorers with 26 points, while recording six steals. Jenna Cleaveland had 11 points and Abby Ballinger had seven. Kaleigh Shultz had eight assists.

The Lady Eagles are now 6-0 on the season.

 

Crestview girls' basketball teams sweep Indian Springs

A last-minute push by the Crestview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team helped send the Cougars over Indian Springs 24-21 in the team's season-opener on Monday, Nov. 15.

Rachel Anderson make a jumpshot to slip past Indian Springs, and Morgan Butler finished the Cougars' opponent off with another two-pointer to earn the victory.
Corinne Tester led Crestview, 1-0, with eight points and six steals. Aly Grabner had six points and six rebounds, while Morgan Butler recorded five points and five rebounds.

Salamonie School boys' basketball squads drop openers

With just seven players, the Salamonie School eighth grade boys' basketball team lost its season-opener to Bluffton, 52-33, on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Salamonie was down by just two points, 22-20, at halftime.
Walker Spahr led the Rebels with 10 points. Greg Goff scored eight points and Austin Eltzroth had six.

Salamonie's seventh grade boys' basketball team also lost to Bluffton, 45-23.

Isaac Smith scored eight points, Jake Stephan had seven points and Spencer Sharpe scored four.

Both teams will face Blackford on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Salamonie.

Salamonie School girls' basketball teams lose openers

The Salamonie School eighth grade girls' basketball team fell to Bluffton Middle School 40-16 in its season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Alexis Hardin led the Rebels with eight points. Danielle Kern added six points.

The Rebels' seventh grade girls' basketball team fared better, but also lost to Bluffton, 33-27.

Madi Canady entered double-digits with 11 points. Olivia Bolinger had nine.

Both teams will face Crestview Middle School at Salamonie on Thursday, Nov. 18.

 

Tackett leads HNHS boy bowlers past Bluffton in opener

EJ Tackett rolled games of 213 and 218 to lead the Huntington North High School boys' varsity bowling team to an 18-2 win over Bluffton on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at The Bowling Center in Bluffton.

In the first series of matches, Adam Fruit had a 207, Tyler Krepp had a 202, Tyler Carroll had a 188 and Connor Brown rolled a 172 to combine with Tackett's 213 for a 982-888 win.

HNHS girls' varsity bowling team wins season-opener

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity bowling team defeated Bellmont 17-3 in its season -opener on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at The Bowling Center in Bluffton.

In the first series, Huntington North won 779-697.

Ayla Yeiter recorded a 177, Alyssa Prickett rolled a 159, Alex Rittenhouse had a 155, Eleni Newsome scored a 149 and Mikey Harrison had a 132. Only Newsome and Prickett won their individual matches.

The Lady Vikings improved in the second series, winning 879-557.

Eagles go 2-1 in Midwest Christian Homeschool tourney

The Huntington Eagles homeschool basketball team took two wins and one loss during the Midwest Christian Homeschool Basketball Conference Match Play weekend at the Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13.

On Friday, Caleb Featherston scored 30 points as the Eagles, 6-1, defeated the Cincinnati Trailblazers 67-51.

Huntington maintained an edge throughout the game, driving a 35-31 halftime lead into a win.

Matt Weaver supported Featherston with 15 points, and Samuel Daniels added 10. Featherston added eight rebounds and seven steals.

Weaver leads Lady Eagles over Cincy Trailblazers, 55-24

Catherine Weaver netted 26 points as the Huntington Lady Eagles homeschool basketball team dominated the Cincinnati Trailblazers 55-24 on Saturday, Nov. 13, as part of the Midwest Christian Homeschool Basketball Conference Match Play weekend at the Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.

The Lady Eagles, 5-0, took a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never gave that advantage up. Cincinnati was only able to match the Lady Eagles' score in the fourth quarter, when both teams scored eight.

Green's double-double leads HU women past Siena Heights

Kelsey Green had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Huntington University women's basketball team to a 66-54 win over host Siena Heights University on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Huntington, 4-0, only squeaked ahead of SHU in the first half, but controlled the second half for the win.

Sarah Miller had a game-high 18 points and Taylor Foley added 10 for Huntington.

Zawadzki earns MVP as Foresters win own Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Tournament

Kellen Zawadzki scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Huntington University men's basketball team beat Missouri Valley College, 78-55, to win its own Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Huntington, 5-0, shined in both halves, never allowing MVC to gain the advantage, converting a 35-28 halftime score into the 23-point win.

Tyler Shively and Caleb Kennedy added 16 and 12 points, respectively, to the HU attack.

Kennedy and Bobby Jolliff had six rebounds each.
