Crestview cross country teams participate at Maplecreek meet

Crestview Middle School cross-country runners participated in the Maplecreek Middle School meet on Thursday, Aug. 26.

All runners ran individually in the meet, and each gender and grade level had its own race. The results are as follows:

Alec Justice, 9th place, 11:54; Christian Jones, 15th place, 12:37; David Prather, 16th place, 12:41; Tyler Hamilton, 18th place, 12:57; Luke Juillerat, 19th place, 13:02; Logan Boyer, 27th place, 15:16; Cameron Shuttle, 28th place, 16:52; and Matt Hunt, 29th place, 17:19.

Grabner scores pair as Lady Viking booters knot with South Side

Led by Alyssa Grabner, the Huntington North High School girls' varsity soccer team tied host South Side 3-3 on Thursday, Aug. 26.

Grabner had two goals, with Lauren Bradburn having the Lady Vikings' third goal. Bradburn and Kelsey Hollowell each had an assist.

Goalkeeper Kaylie Dunn had 14 saves for the team, now 2-1-2.

 

Columbia City whitewashes HNHS netmen

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis team lost to host Columbia City 0-5 on Thursday, Aug. 26.

The team is now 1-3 in the season.

The HNHS boys' junior varsity team tied Columbia City 4-4.

In singles, Cameron Buzzard shut down his opponent 8-0, and Aaron Gilmore beat his opponent 8-1.

In doubles, Tom Bolinger and Jacob Klingaman won 8-4, and Matt Sieburns and Andrew Smith slipped by their opponents 6-5.

 

Madonna scores in last minute to edge HU soccer squad

Despite Huntington University recording the first goal of the game, it was the last goal of the game that proved the biggest as visiting Madonna broke a 1-1 tie by scoring in the final minute to beat HU on Thursday, Aug. 26.

After a silent first half, freshman Nick Bunting scored HU's first and only goal unassisted in the 53rd minute.
The Forester's advantage barely lasted, however, as Madonna's Max Washko scored the Crusaders' first goal in the 55th minute.

HNHS boy booters use big second half to beat South Side

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity soccer team exploded in the second half to shut down visiting South Side 3-0 on Thursday, Aug. 26.

Issac Wust led the Viking charge with two unassisted goals, but it was Zach Schaffter who lit the fuse for HNHS with a goal eight minutes into the second half.

Goalie Kyle Williams earned the shutout by recording six saves.

Thursday's shutout brought the Vikes to a 3-1 record.
In the junior varsity match, Huntington North tied South Side 1-1.

HNHS volleyball squad can't complete comeback against Northrop

Although a comeback looked possible in the third and fourth frames, the Huntington North High School volleyball team couldn't keep the momentum going as it fell to visiting Northrop in five sets, with scores of 14-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-18, 11-15 on Thursday, Aug. 26.

Este Stoffel led the Lady Vikings, now 1-4, with 15 kills and 23 digs. Alexis Wygant had 11 kills and 11 digs. Kayla Koch added 34 assists and nine digs to the HNHS cause.

In junior varsity action, Huntington North beat Northrop in three sets, with scores of 25-22, 22-25, 15-6.

Featherston leads Lady Eagles to second volleyball win

Kelsey Featherston recorded 13 kills, 10 aces and 20 digs to take a lead in the Huntington Lady Eagles homeschool volleyball team's winning effort against visiting F.I.S.H. Shining Stars of Fulton County on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The Lady Eagles won in five sets with scores of 15-25, 25-8, 20-25, 25-13, 15-5.

Backing up Featherston was Kaleigh Shultz with 24 assists, six kills and 14 aces, Marina Stoffel with 20 digs and seven kills and Kaitlin Layman with 26 digs.

 

Lady Eagles win volleyball opener

The Huntington Lady Eagles homeschool volleyball team opened its season with a win over Emmanuel Christian School in Wabash on Friday, Aug. 20, in four sets, with scores of 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17.

Kaleigh Shultz led the Lady Eagles with 19 assists, 12 kills and 10 aces. Kelsey Featherston had eight kills and 16 digs, Marina Stoffel had seven kills and 21 digs and Kaitlin Layman had 24 digs.

The team is coached this season by Mike West as head coach and Joni West as assistant coach.

 

Richard leads HNHS golfers to big win over North Side

Laurisa Richard shot a 40 to win individual medalist honors and lead the Huntington North High School girls' varsity golf team to a 184-249 win over visiting North Side on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at LaFontaine Golf Course.

"I'm very proud of the girls today," said Coach Scott Winter. "They stepped up and applied what we do in practice in the match, and it shows in their scores."

Shawna Titus backed up Richard with a 47, while Morgan O'Banion shot a 48 and Liz Conley had a 49. Maddie Meese was the non-scorer with a 51.

Seeking registration for hoop tournament

The Huntington North Boys’ Basketball team is hosting a Back to School 3-on-3 Basketball fund-raiser Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11. Pictured with the promotional are basketball players (from left) Kevin Fisher, Matt Kramer and Levi Lawson.

The Huntington North boys' basketball team will be hosting a Back to School 3-on-3 Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11, beginning at 10 a.m. at Huntington North High School.

The tournament will be made up of girls and boys teams in grades 3-12. There is a cost per team. Each player will receive a water bottle and winners receive medals and T-shirts.

Registration forms are available at all local school offices or by contacting Becky Fisher at 356-9167.

HNHS wrestling team starting its preseason workouts

The Huntington North High School wrestling team will be starting its preseason workouts on Monday, Aug. 30.

Workouts will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week until the season starts.

Lime City Rockers 12U holding tryouts for 2011 team sposts

The Lime City Rockers 12 and under girls' fast-pitch softball team is having tryouts for the 2011 season on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 4 p.m. at the Huntington University softball field.

To be eligible to play, the player cannot be 13 before Jan. 1, 2011.

Norwell stops Lady Viking spikers

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team lost to visiting Norwell in three sets with scores of 14-25, 21-25, 21-25 on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

Alexis Wygant led the Lady Vikings with seven kills and 12 digs. Taylor Hiers had 14 digs, Este Stoffel had six kills and Kayla Koch had 21 assists.

Tuesday's match dropped the team to a 1-3 record.

In junior varsity volleyball action, Huntington North beat Norwell in two sets with scores of 25-19, 25-13.
