Lady Viking netters drop to 4-11

The Huntington North Lady Vikings fell 2-3 on Senior Night, Thursday, May 13, against Logansport, with the wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Taryn Wuensch, at the top singles spot, knocked off Peyton Zehner, 7-6, 6-4.

Senior Abby Berry at HNHS No. 2 singles picked off Madeline Jones, 6-2, 6-4.

Felecia Alderman, at No. 3 singles, lost to Haleigh Johnson, 0-6, 3-6.

Senior pair Kourtney Burbaker and Stephanie Goebbert lost to their No. 1 doubles opponents Rachel Jennings and Morgan McCloskey, 1-6, 4-6.

HNHS diamond men split twinbill with Logansport

The Huntington North baseball team came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat host Logansport, 11-9, in the opening game of a doubleheader split on Thursday, May 13.

The Vikings dropped the second contest, 7-5, to bring the Vikings' record to 18-5 overall 7-1 in the North Central Conference.

Shaun Marion had a home run and two hits in the first game, and Trent Sherman had a two doubles among three hits.
Nick Miller added three RBI and two hits, Brett Wiley had two RBI on two hits, and Cody Frazier added two RBI.

Depth carries Lady Viking tracksters to win over FW trio

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity track team won just one event but had enough depth to squeeze out 73 points to win a four-way meet with Harding,
Bishop Luers and Snider on Wednesday, May 12.

Snider came in second place overall with 72 points, while Harding totaled 53 and Bishop Luers had 47.

Alexis Wygant, a freshman, had the only win for the Lady Vikings by winning the pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches.

But despite the lone gold-medal finish, Huntington North grabbed eight second-place finishes and six third places.

HU baseball team wins Mid-Central Conference tourney

The Huntington University baseball team took the Mid-Central Conference title by scoring three runs and then preventing a comeback by Indiana Wesleyan University to defeat the Wildcats 3-2 in the final game of the MCC Tournament at IWU on Wednesday, May 12.

The Foresters, 31-20, won the winner's bracket of the tournament on Tuesday, May 11, after defeating IWU earlier in the day. The Wildcats went on to win the loser's bracket on Tuesday to end up in a re-match with Huntington.

Crestview sweeps both boys' middle school track championships

Sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys' track teams from all three Huntington County middle schools met at Huntington North High School for the county tournament on Tuesday, May 11.

Eighth Grade
Crestview Middle School took top honors in the eighth grade meet with 66.5 points, followed by Riverview MS with 53.5 points and Salamonie School with 17.

Riverview wins girls' 8th grade county track title; Crestview wins 7th grade

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls' track team won the county title on Tuesday, May 11, defeating Crestview and Salamonie.

The Crestview and Riverview Middle School and the Salamonie School sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls' track teams competed against each other on Tuesday, May 11, in the county girls' track tournament at Huntington North High School.

Eighth Grade
Riverview Middle controlled the eight grade competition by winning nine events, racking up 72.5 points to defeat Crestview's 49.5 points and Salamonie's 14 points.

HU stays unbeaten in MCC tournament

After Indiana Wesleyan University took control in the sixth inning, the Huntington University baseball team pulled back ahead to defeat the Wildcats 10-9 to remain the only undefeated team in the Mid-Central Conference Tournament on Tuesday, May 11.
Andrew Drummond led HU at the plate by going 3 for 4, resulting in one run and five RBI. Eric Schultz had three runs and Adam Christner and Ryan Shell each recorded two runs.

HNHS girls' tennis team gets edged again

The Huntington North High School girls' tennis team again got edged by a 2-3 score as it fell to host Adams Central on Tuesday, May 11.

HNHS got its wins from second singles player Abby Berry and Felecia Alderman at No. 3.

Berry, a senior, scrapped to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Lauren Harvey, while Alderman, a junior, beat Hali Wendel, 6-2, 6-4.

At first singles, sophomore Taryn Wuensch fell to Chelsea Selking, 3-6, 4-6.

Huntington County Baseball begins season

Huntington County Baseball began its season on Tuesday, May 4, after opening day was rained out on May 1 and additional games were cancelled due to weather on May 3.

Results from the first week of play are:

Willie Mays League
On May 4, Roanoke defeated Clear Creek 12-2.
May 6, Clear Creek rolled over RE/MAX 14-4 and Culp forfeited to Midwest Metals.
On May 8, Culp defeated RE/MAX 10-2; First Federal tied Applebee's 9-9; Midwest Metals edged Warren 16-15; and Roanoke eclipsed First Federal 14-12.

PAL begins baseball seasons

The Huntington Police Athletic League began its season on Thursday, May 6. Games on Saturday, May 1, and Monday, May 3, were rained out.

El Shaddai defeated Welder Services 14-11.
Markle Heath Center shut down Bowen Center 8-0.

El Shaddai and Markle Health are tied for first place, and Bowen Center and Welder Services are tied for last place in Coaches Pitch, but Bailey-Love Funeral Home, Frederick's Photography, I.M.I. Inc., Metro Kiwanis and Zay Leasing have not yet played games.

Cresview boys' track team swamps Wabash

Winning all but one event, the Crestview Middle School varsity boys' track team mowed down Wabash 97-12 on Tuesday, May 4.

Tyler Veilleux led the Cougars by winning the 200-meter dash and the long jump. He also teamed up with Mark Hoover, Charleston Dydasco and Skyler Veilleux to win the 400-meter relay. Caleb Stoffel also won two events, the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run.

Carroll leads Vikings to 17th win

Wesley Carroll led an 11-hit attack with three safeties of his own to pace the Huntington North High School baseball team to a 9-3 win over visiting Muncie Central on Monday, May 10.

Cody Frazier added two hits, and he, Carroll and Brett Wiley all smacked doubles to lead HNHS to its 17th win in 21 outings this season, and sixth straight win in the North Central Conference without a loss.

Shaun Marion knocked in a pair of runs for HNHS.
