Green leads HU women to opening hoop win

Kelsey Green had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Huntington University women's basketball team to a 70-53 win over visiting Cornerstone University on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The Foresters started slow in their season opener, taking over five minutes to light up the scoreboard. Huntington captured a number of Cornerstone turnovers, however, to achieve a 20-12 lead in the first half, and it held a 38-28 halftime lead.

Although Cornerstone got as close as five points in the second half, Sarah Miller led the Forester women to a 23-9 run to seal the deal on a Huntington win.

PAL tourneys wrap up grid season

The Police Athletic League wrapped up its season on Saturday, Oct. 31, finishing tour-naments in each of the league's three divisions that were begun earlier in the week.

5, 6 and 7-year-olds
In the 5, 6 and 7-year-old division, the undefeated No. 1-seeded Texans took the champi-onship title by slamming the No. 2 Bills 22-0. The Texans defeated the No. 5 Lions 12-6, and the Bills beat the No. 3 Ravens 12-6 to advance to the championship match.

Graham gets all-state finish to lead Viking harriers to ninth at state meet

Senior Josh Graham closed out his high school cross country career with an all-state finish and led the Huntington North High School boys cross country team to a ninth place effort at the Indiana state championship on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Terre Haute.

Graham, usually the Vikings number two runner, toured the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in 16:36.8 to place 16th overall to gain all-state honors and lead HNHS to 284 points.

Strong pack running earns HNHS girls 10th place at state meet

The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team continued its pattern of strong pack running and earned a 10th place finish Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Indiana State Girls' Country Country meet at Terre Haute.

The Lady Vikings' scoring runners placed from 17th through 77th to give the team 257 points, good for 10th among the 24 squads competing.

Columbus North won the team title with 96 points. Carmel placed second with 178 points, Franklin Central was third with 183, Noblesville was fourth with 186 and Carroll got the final podium spot, also with 186 points.

Lady Vike spikers push Muncie Central hard, but fall in regional

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team pushed Muncie Central hard but the highly-regarded Lady Bearcats came out on top in three games in the opening round of the Muncie Central Volleyball Regional on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Lady Vikings, finishing at 25-12 on the season, took the host school to within four points in the first and third games as they lost 25-21, 25-13, 25-21.

PAL football sets tourney schedule

The Huntington Police Athletic League football program is gearing up for its end-of-season tournament this week.

The first round of the 5, 6 and 7-year-old division will be on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The first games of the 8 and 9-year-old division will be on Thursday, Oct. 29. For the 10-year-old division, two teams will play on Tuesday, and the other two teams will play Thursday.

All three tournaments will wrap up Saturday morning, Oct. 31.

The Huntington North High School volleyball team took out Homestead in three straight games to claim the championship of the Fort Wayne North Side Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Lady Vikings, 25-11, beat their archirvals 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19 to earn a ticket to the Muncie Central Regional next Saturday, Oct. 31. They will face the high-regarded Lady Bearcats in the second game of the opening round.

Carroll and Harrison square off at 11 a.m. in the opener.

The championship game is set for 7 p.m.
