Viking swimmers fall to Muncie Central

The Huntington North High School boys' and girls' swim teams both lost to visiting Muncie Central on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The Viking boys lost, 113-72, despite Skyler Ruschhaupt earning two individual events and helping a relay team to victory. The HNHS girls lost 111-70.

Ruschhaupt took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:02.88, and 200-yard individual medley, in 2:15.71. The team of Ruschhhapt, Shaun Marion, Chris Royer and Danny Scher won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.30.

Second quarter dooms Lady Vikes at Logansport

A disastrous second quarter cost the Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team as it lost to host Logansport, 56-42, on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The Lady Vikes, 4-8, took a 14-10 lead after one quarter of play, but then were outscored 16-2 in the second quarter and never recovered. The Lady Berries stretched the lead to 39-26 after three quarters.

Taylor Foley led HNHS with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Hayley Bradford added nine points and three assists. Mariah Town chipped in with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Trio leads Viking wrestlers to Close Classic title

Led by champions Zach Abbott, Logan Randle and Brant Hiple, the Huntington North High School wrestling team captured its own Weston Close Memorial Wrestling Classic on Saturday, Jan. 3, at HNHS.

Abbott, winner of the tourney's most outstanding wrestler honor, was champion at 189 pounds, Randle took home top honors at 112 pounds and Hiple was top gun at 140 as the Vikings rolled up 234 team points to beat runner-up Southern Wells by 19.

Rob Newsome at 119, Colin Downey at 125 and Kenny Morton at 215 earned second place finishes for HNHS. Jamie Kuehl at 171 placed fourth.

Lady Vikes split at TCU Lady Vikings Holiday Classic

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team split its two games at its own TCU Lady Vikings Holiday Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 30.

In the early game, the Lady Vikes lost a tight contest to Hamilton Heights, 66-64. Taylor Foley led the Lady Vikes in points and rebounds, with 20 and 14, respectively.

Alyssa Hurlburt had 12 points and five rebounds and Liesl Davenport added 10 points and five rebounds. Hayley Bradford chipped with with four assists.

HNHS boys fall to Bowman Academy in First Federal Classic championship

The Huntington North High School boys' basketball team lost to Bowman Academy 60-49, Saturday, Dec. 27, in the championship game of the First Federal Holiday Hoops Classic, at North Arena.

The Vikings advanced to the championship game by beating New Haven, 65-53, in the morning contest.

The Vikings are now 3-4 on the season.

 

 

HNHS Athletes of Week - Nov. 30

Huntington North High School announced its athletes of the week for the week of Nov. 30 as varsity swim team members Sara Karst and Danny Scher.

Karst earned two first place finishes in her individual events, the 200-meter freestyle and 500-meter freestyle, during the team’s meet against Manchester on Dec. 2. She also contributed to two first place finishes in relay events, the 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle.

State cross country

Both the Huntington North High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams finished in the top half of the pack Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Indiana High School Athletic Association state finals in Terre Haute.

The HNHS girls’ team placed a team-record 10th among 24 teams with 299 points, while the boys’ team finished 12th among 24 with 326 points. Carmel was the team champion in both races.
