Holder, Holley, Maranda earn Scott Breiner Mermorial scholarships

Branden Holder, Derek Holley and Whitney Maranda have each been awarded a $500 Scott Breiner Memorial Scholarship from the Huntington County Community Foundation.

Holder, a 2008 graduate of Huntington North High School, will be a sophomore at Anderson University majoring in psychology, criminal justice and youth leadership.

He is the son of Kimberly Holder of Andrews.

Holder is an active member of Anderson University's "To Write Love on Her Arms" chapter (suicide/self-injury prevention) and a member of the AU Psychology Department's club.

Derek Holley, a 2009 graduate of Northfield High School, plans to attend Indiana State University double majoring in business education and accounting.

He is the son of Michael and Sonia Holley of Roanoke.

While in high school, Holley participated in NHS basketball and baseball, as well as 4-H.

Maranda, a 2008 graduate of Huntington North High School, will be a sophomore at Indiana University majoring in psychology.

She is the daughter of Timothy and JoEllen Maranda of Huntington.

In high school, Maranda participated in class council, tutoring, freshman mentoring, National Honor Society, softball and Student Alumni Association.

The Scott Breiner Memorial Scholarship was established by Jim and Nancy Breiner in memory of their son, Scott. It is awarded to a Huntington North High School or a North
