Pathfinder to hold financial wellness workshops

Pathfinder Community Connections, the community development division of Pathfinder Services, will host a series of workshops focused on overall financial wellness beginning Feb. 2 in Huntington.

The series will emphasize building and improving credit scores, and will include four different sessions intended for any community member who would like to improve their financial situation.

Workshops will take place at Pathfinder Community Connections located at 2824 Theater Ave., Huntington.
All courses will be instructed by staff from Purdue Extension, Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Pathfinder Community Connections.

Each workshop will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dates and topics are:

• Thursday, Feb. 2: Financial planning in easy steps by discussing why financial planning is important, self-assessment, how to set and achieve financial goals, and how to improve financial management practices.

• Thursday, Feb. 9: Wise use of credit and receive free credit report. Discussion will include credit danger signs, how credit reporting works, how to achieve a healthier credit score, solving common credit reporting errors and problems, and how much credit is too much.

• Thursday, Feb. 16: Being a responsible consumer by discussing bank products and services, household record keeping, predatory lending and practices, and your financial health and net worth.

• Thursday, Feb. 23: Focus on the future by discussing effective couponing and other money-saving tips, why insurance is important, tax credits and deductions, celebrating success, and next steps toward financial fitness.

There is an opportunity to qualify for a choice of incentives after completing all four workshops.

Participants may be eligible to receive loans or funding to open a local savings account. Certain restrictions apply to both opportunities.

Each workshop is free, but registration is required. Space is limited, so early registry is recommended.

To register, contact Natalie Fisher at Pathfinder Community Connections at 356-0521, ext. 3213, or email her at nfisher @pathfinderservices.org.
