Retired teachers group awards scholarships to Strass, McElhaney

The Huntington County Retired Teachers awarded Christie Strass and Lindsay McElhaney with scholarships for the 2012-13 school year. The recipients have relatives who are members of the HCRT association.

Strass is the granddaughter of Leona Bear of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Huntington North High School and Purdue University. She is currently an elementary teacher working on her master's degree at Ball State University with a focus on curriculum and educational technology. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hamilton County Reading Council.

McElhaney is the granddaughter of Tom and Janice McElhaney. She is a graduate of Huntington North High School and is currently attending Anderson University, majoring in education. While in Anderson she volunteers at a local church's after-school program, provides tutoring to a second grade student and volunteers in a "Lunch Buddy" program.
