Long-time Huntington floral business Wehr Into Flowers became a part of Huntington Nursery and Florist on July 1 as the Jim Yarger family bought the Wehr business from Rose Wall, the owner for the past 15 years.
The Yargers have owned Huntington Nursery since 2008, and expanded into the floral business in 2009.
When Wall decided to cut back her working hours to spend more time with husband Tom on his business ventures and with family, buying Wehr's seemed to be a natural fit, Jim Yarger notes.
"We were already doing it, so this just is a growing thing for our floral department," Yarger says.
Yarger has moved the Wehr shop location to his retail store at 2964 W. Park Drive, Huntington.
He says he intends to retain the Wehr staff of three designers to go along with his current staff, and says he sees no changes in how things will be run.
"The way she (Wall) did business and the way we do business is similar, so nothing should be changed in service," Yarger relates.
The Wehr phone number remains 356-8324. Customers can also reach the floral department by calling the existing nursery floral department number at 356-9377 (FLO-WERS).
Deliveries will continue, and free deliveries will still be made to all local funeral homes, notes Kevin Yarger.
The shop will also continue to work through FTD for outside floral delivery.
About the only change customers should see, Jim Yarger says, is more access to gift items and more live plants and trees due to his shop also being a nursery.
"They will see more availability of gift items plus other offerings that the nursery has, like trees and shrubs and live plants in season," he says.
Wehr into Flowers was started about 30 years ago by Cynthia Wehr, who sold the business to Wall.
Floral department hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wall stressed she is not retiring, but wanted more time away from the flower shop to travel with her husband and enjoy her family.
She says when the opportunity came up to sell the business to the Yarger family, it seemed like a good fit for her Wehr Into Flowers customers.
"I was ready to have some time of my own and to do some things like spend time with the family more," she notes.
Wall will be at the floral shop on a part-time basis, she adds.
"I would like to thank everybody who put their faith in us over the years and trusted us with their special times of their lives."
