Fire hydrants in the downtown Huntington area have been decorated by area artists, and the community is invited to view the finished works Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9.

The project is coordinated by the Huntington Arts Initiative. The theme is "A is for Alphabet," and each participating artist chose a letter of the alphabet. That artist then painted a fire hydrant to reflect something beginning with that letter.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, maps of the newly-painted fire hydrants will be available at the New Huntington Theatre, 528 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. All of the decorated fire hydrants are in and around the downtown Huntington area.

The fire hydrants will remain painted for the coming year.
